ya most of us poor mappers use blender lol
Well the important part is not so much the how to of process but rather what kinds of topology makes for a better result.
For the most part the concepts can be translated to different applications if you are familiar with the key editing features that such application has and if someone is a wiz with blender they are more than welcome to take what I’ve presented and translate it to other applications.
Overall though we have talked for a while about doing behind the scenes and how to type videos showing some of the tools we use in the way of content creation as well as our reasons for favoring one design choice over another. The question really was just how basic should we be going as really the idea of doing a “your first room” video which has have done to death and really is not all that exciting considering we are more interested in sparking mapmaking back to the levels of the good old days.
For us I/we believe that going with advanced type concepts and focus on new ideas is a much better approach that would be of more benefit to those that are already considered expert in this are who already have the skills who can take what is difficult and make it easy in creating environments equal to the top AAA titles that we have already established in house is possible based on the application of such programs as 3ds Max.
There is a lot that can be done creatively with the HD engine and we hope that with these videos we can get the information out there and you guys can figure out the rest. ;)
P.S. Sorry no direct link for now. If the series become popular enough we figure out other options in the future.
