On Windows 7 64bit, at the steps "contacting urbanterror.info for the update data" and while checking the checksums, the GUI hangs.

By hangs I mean :
  • we are not able to move the updater window around
  • the mouse cursor looks busy even when overing the window title bar to try to move the window around
  • eventually the window title will show "(not responding)" indicating the operating system feels something is not right
  • the "Quit" button is not responding
  • only the progress bar and progress text change
Once the checksum step is over, the GUI reacts as anyone would expect

Just to let everyone know - if you get issues with "System error QtGui4.ddl"

It is because the final idea will be to replace UrTUpdater.exe in the game directory which already contains these files.

We will be looking at re-packaging the installer shortly into something easier to use, but for now if you rename (or copy to somewhere safe) the current urtupdater.exe file and replace it with the one in the download link everything should work fine.

On Linux (Debian wheezy=testing) 64 bits, first I got a message about library libQtWebKit.so.4 missing, so i needed to install official Debian package "libqtwebkit4", and then it run OK.

I would prefer that the updater for x86_64 only download the binary executables for linux 64 bits and not the .i386 ones (except as a selectable option) nor the .exe ones for Windows (including .reg), nor the .app ones for Mac. Similarly the updater specific of other architecture should only download the binary executables for it, except for a selectable option (disabled by default). Those other binaries are only cluttering the directory with unusable files. Maybe even the dedicated binary should be only offered as an option when using the graphic updater...

Now, if the game files are already uptodate, then the binaries are not offered to be downloaded. It could be better to test also for presence and checksum the binaries (but only the corresponding ones) to avoid the unnecesary download if they are correct and to redownload the corrupted or missing ones.

As a suggestion, apart of sumchecking the current game files, it could be interesting to check the presence of file names from old versions to warn the user about a wrong installation in the same directory. This could avoid many problems some people encounter with 4.2 due to mixing the old version...

Thank you very much for taking care and for the good job.

(Windows 7 64bit here)
When downloading the first pk3 file, the progress bar does not get updated and the progression percentage stays at 0% while we can witness the pk3 file being downloaded on the file system.
This GUI behavior makes the user feel nothing is downloading.

Steps to reproduce
  • update the game so you have all files at the latest version
  • from the q3ut4 directory, delete both zUrT42_0001.pk3 and zUrT42_0002.pk3
  • run the updater

Expected behavior

While zUrT42_0001.pk3 is being downloaded :

  • the progress text must show "Downloading: zUrT42_0001.pk3 ( 1 / 2 )"
  • the progress should start at 0% with the progress bar unfilled
  • the progress bar should fill up reflecting the percentage of the file downloaded and the percentage should increase up to 100%

While zUrT42_0002.pk3 is then being downloaded :

  • the progress text must show "Downloading: zUrT42_0002.pk3 ( 2 / 2 )"
  • the progress should start at 0% with the progress bar unfilled
  • the progress bar should fill up reflecting the percentage of the file downloaded and the percentage should increase up to 100%

Actual behavior

While zUrT42_0001.pk3 is being downloaded :

  • [OK] the progress text must show "Downloading: zUrT42_0001.pk3 ( 1 / 2 )"
  • [OK] the progress should start at 0% with the progress bar unfilled
  • [KO] the progress bar should fill up reflecting the percentage of the file downloaded and the percentage should increase up to 100%

While zUrT42_0002.pk3 is then being downloaded :

  • [OK] the progress text must show "Downloading: zUrT42_0002.pk3 ( 2 / 2 )"
  • [KO] the progress should start at 0% with the progress bar unfilled -> it starts at 100% with a fully filled progress bar
  • [KO] the progress bar should fill up reflecting the percentage of the file downloaded and the percentage should increase up to 100%

These qt libraries are actively developed and therefore available in multiple versions as time goes on. Have you considered pegging your executable to a particular stable release of the qt libs? This way you can eliminate a variable in your development process and have more certainty about your software release.
