what you are saying is that you can not promote the game since you pretty much don't own the game? i mean that sounds absurd ..
in other threads was mentioned that urt was promoted in the past (e.g. fileplanet i think) and all of a sudden there is no way for you to tell people about the awesome game you are making?
what the hell happened? what's different now?

The rest is typical game development politics in a for profit world.

i can't shake off the feeling that you are trying to avoid my question ...
why was fs able to promote the game in the past and know can't do that anymore?
i think it's sad everything has to be postponed to when urt hd comes out ...

I think we've answered this previously but in case we didn't. In the past we had people who did this work (Oswald for instance). Decoy took over but is very busy at the moment, all of the members have their own speciality and currently we don't have someone actively in charge of our marketing etc. So if there are people interested in such a position within FS you can apply by sending an email to contact [at] urbanterror [dot] info

i was under the impression that the main problem were the assets you do not own the rights to, resulting in the necessity to contact an aweful lot of people to acquire those rights taken you wanted to promote urt 4.2 on e.g. the appstore..
so basically you got pieces of software (textures and alike) in your package that some distributors would not want to offer since it's not all your property ..

from frankie's post i'd deduce getting all people involved to sign some agreement is simply an impossible task to accomplish ...

and now you are saying the reason urt 4.2 isn't offered on any disributing platform's is a matter of personnel ..
so what is it now? the former or the latter?
are you saying that if you get someone to do the whole pr stuff for you .. fs might be able to put urt 4.2 on distributing platforms after all?

To ask the question which version of the game are you referring to?
What logic says is to get the updater done and working properly as it should by design and send that out to mass distribution sites so they can avoid the issues of IP problems altogether and makes for a much smaller download that any site can manage.
Intellectual Property rights represents the single largest problem facing indie video game developers to day and most if not all mass distribution sites will not touch you with a ten foot pole unless you can establish lawful ownership of all elements of your game including branding.
Taking a further step down the rabbit hole.

Electronic Arts just fired the first shot in an on coming IP war between video game developers and weapon branding in video games that an indie group like FrozenSand, who uses branded weapons, can not afford with the speculation that if the weapon manufactures do win it can be assumed that any game with out proper brand licensing will be facing a take down notice in the future.
That being said Urban Terror is in a world of it's own with an already established player base that I'm sure we can all say makes the game the best kept secret on the internet but by going mass distribution to soon will put us on everyone’s radar and not just those who play video games.
Soooooo
Go mass distribution sure just not today.

4.2. .. urt hd is like a mirage to me and i am hoping that future 4.2 releases might make urt more popular, taken auth and acc are running and you put out that 64 bit mac build : )
i think you gained momentum when that cheaterlist was released ..it felt like a short upswing for urt and i thought getting more people interested in a cheater free version of urt would be the thing to do..

so we are back to the urt updater to avoid ip problems (at least partially) ..
is there a timeframe when this thing will be capable to do what it is supposed to do?
to make this easier: will we see the updater on distribution platforms in 4.2's lifespan?

but let's not start nitpicking ..
why don't you promote the vacant position for marketing or any other open slot for that matter on the news site??

Regarding promotion. We don't just replace a team member when they are busy. We are not a commercial operation concerned only with profit. Also, even when Oswald was still doing PR he found that the big gaming sites wouldn't carry news for us anymore. I've talked about this before. Even Fileplanet stopped listing us in the top downloads despite UrT being in the top 5 downloads. This happened several years ago. These sites are more interested in their ad revenue.

For me it is not a good idea to put conditions for donation , donate if you feel like it . I suggest if this is supposed to be honest decision shouldn be made , because it is good to be done , not because someone causes pressure .
Donating should be conditionless for me .

Also thinking of it what would be if gunpowder was licensed back in the day ?
Not to mention that if the rumours are true some scientists want to license some genes they've been discovered . So shall we pay them for using those genes ?! -> Analogically the process of detonational burning could be patented .
& talking of that do you know there are people buying patents just to stop development ?...
