Auto Check for Updates Rate Topic: -----

for all => not only AUTH´s

Hi @ All
The Zottel here!!

My idea ...an autocheck system for updates, for ALL PLAYER (not only for the auth´s)

for example
==> "i start the game" (and in the background), the console or what ever => check "is there an update or not"
and then....
==> is there a new update => "tell it" (as if I would be a auth)
==> is not => do nothing =>....let me play :)

Why are the updater and the client/server not integrated?
Shouldnt be that hard, u could even fire the updater from srv/clt without bigger integration work.

Anyways, dont wanna express my frustration here just wanted to say that i understand Zottel pretty well.
This is a frustration tolerance testing facility as it looks like guys. (:

So I take it this is a bad idea(?).

I think it is a big mistake to not care about un-authed users.
As we consider our servers noob-friendly I guess this might not concern too many people/players active in the forum - but we need noobs to keep a game alive. Thats how you started too. (I'm assuming especially the new players are the ones that don't check for updates on a regular basis.)

Both the UrT Updater (https://github.com/B...rror-Updater-v3) and the UrT Client/Server build (https://github.com/B...r-UrbanTerror-4) are open sourced.
If you have the competences to build correctly an integrated version of the two, we would be more than happy to see you proceed!

I think the suggestion is a bit misunderstood:
It is not about integrating the two. Its about giving un-authed users a similar "your version is outdated" message as authed users receive one.
I don't know how the auth works, a guess: Let people send a request to be authed to the authserver even without a authkey (sending an empty variable?). Then the auth server sends them the message too, that their game is out of date(?). And if it is not out of date they receive the message that they do not have a valid auth key(which in my opinion is not too big of a deal).

(As I don't get one with an outdated version without auth, I just assume that thats the norm and not a bug.)
