Hi everyone,
i have played 4.1 for ages now on a fedora 7. I updated to fedora 20 and now i can start it, everything works except i can not get the "player" menu to open. The other ones work as always... Also, the background for the menu has changed.

red/white/blue stripes...That was not there before.
I just copied the complete folder from the old to the new machine and now run the x64 instead of i.386. The i386 worked perfectly.
Anyone as any idea what might be causing this?
I removed the config file. It gets recreated, everything works - except the problem is still there.
Then i installed 4.2 in a different folder and run 4.2 - no problem at all. I can play, all menues visible.
It is just... 4.2 is not as good and all the people i play with are on 4.1 servers.
So if someone has any ideas as to what i can try - you can hs and ks me anytime you want. :)
Thanks,
saftnase

4.2 and 4.1 together?

try redownloading 4.1 i would suggest. this striped texture is the "missing texture" texture. I would guess your version somehow got corrupted.
anyway. as long as your 4.2 and 4.1 arent in the same folder, there shouldnt be any problems.
on linux systems you might want to consider that both may use the same q3config (in your user files). That might cause problems.
also i do remember i read something about problems with urt on some version of fedora somewhere....... (dont know much more about it tho)

This. You can set your homepath at launch with a parameter:
./quake3-UrT.x86_64 +set fs_homepath $HOME/.q3urt42
Which should automagically create a separate home folder in .q3urt42, instead of the default .q3a. This will stop 4.1 and 4.2 from sharing config files etc.

Thank you for the pointer. It was sort of annoying having to set the master server every time i launched the game, since i use master.quake3arena.com for 4.1 and the default one for 4.2.
Btw. there seem to be no players on the default server... are there other, more popular servers?
Thanks again,

Thank you for the info on the missing texture... I downloaded and tried a fresh install - same issue. I found that it looked for libcurl.so.3, not libcurl.so.4 and fixed that using
\cl_cURLLib libcurl.so.4
But still the issue remains. Could it be a 64 bit thing? Before i was running the i386 executable. I also tried different resoltions and different color depths - nothing. I also started with an empty config folder - no change.
Now i tried the old .i386 executable and got it to start by installing a few more packages, including the mesa-dri drivers and some more related stuff.
But now after the Frozen Sand screen, it dies with
^1Error: file ui/setup.menu, line 1: file ui/menddef.h not found
^1Error: file ui/system.menu, line 1: file ui/menddef.h not found
^1Error: file ui/error.menu, line 1: file ui/menddef.h not found
^1Error: file ui/psetup.menu, line 1: file ui/menddef.h not found
It seems this is a known issue and they recommend downloading an "optimized binary", but that seems to be not longer available?
[update]
Ok, i found
https://github.com/u..._4.1.1_ioquake3
and compiled it. Now the 64 bit version runs and has menus and i can play in a local server. *BUT* i can not set \cl_master, it tells me command unknown... :(
I found the setting for the master server in
code/qcommon/qcommon.h
and changed it to
#ifndef MASTER_SERVER_NAME
#define MASTER_SERVER_NAME "master.quake3arena.com"
#endif
and recompiled. I run the new binary, i can see the string in the binary, but when i hit "Get New List" it still tells me it is using master.urbanterror.info... and i get no list...
I am running out of ideas...
[/update]
Any more tips?
Thanks again,
Saftnase
