Color names is a very enjoyable and flashy utility. In the last versions it has not been implemented directly on the server. Why not implement it in the original version?

We decided years ago from the first version of UrT that we did not want coloured names. People felt it made the scoreboard ugly in other games so they didn't want it in ours. That was 16 years ago though and times change so we shall see what the team thinks nowadays.

There are some servers that do have coloured names. Also programs like qtracker do display coloured names.
My problem with those always was that you can not tell if the guy who just got killed is on your team. Which is pretty essential imo.
Because right now, if you see some text like ^1Iye [M4] ^4DeadGuy you can directly tell which one of those is on your team.
And I think that if you are not using "default" or using fixed skins the names get recolored accodingly (i still use the good old red team is red and blue team is blue skins)
So imo, if such a feature would be added it should either be limited to the scoreboard, or clients should be able to turn off custom colored names.

As you say, on some gamemode that is essential team play, can be annoying. But on other gamemodes where are less team play, is pretty see that colours.
So, using a cvar client-side or server-side for activate or disactivate this utility will be fine. I think is better server-side for activate or desactivate to whole players.
