Have just been thinking how to best configure the game.

Is there such a mode as 'raw input' for the mouse? I know there is an in_mouse variable but I don't want to change it unless there may be benefits to that. Any explanation of this variable?

Also wondering about improving the sound quality. I know I could change s_KHz but I don't want to do so blindly, anything I should change along with it? Also wondering what other settings may be best for me, I have a pair of headphones with good sound stage (positional audio) so I would guess I don't need anything to help with that. Using alsa under linux.

If there is some link that could make it clearer that'd be great.

Thanks :)

if you want a different sound engine, you could also download r00ts built, if that's still available somewhere, and use e.g. iKalizer.
I personally would recommend staying with dmaHD though (its the default since some versions ago)

both dmaHD and iKalizer support surround sound(up to 7.1 iirc) and output device selection (which i found really usefull).

considering the in_mouse should, if it still works (i havent touched those settings in ages), make your mouse mouse input ignore every OS settings like acceleration,...

Would anyone be able to make a current 4.2 build with dmaHD (non-bumpy)? I use Debian GNU/Linux. Or, alternatively, would anyone be able to give instructions on how to compile this from the source? (Preferably p5yc0runn3r's version). Thanks!

huh?

dmaHD is in the current default/official built. And I'm pretty sure its even turned on by default.
(check for dmaHD_enable in your config)

Ah, okay, thanks. Here is the sound section of my autoexec.cfg. Do any of these variables look wrong?

//
// SOUND
//
seta s_volume "0.8" // Default: 0.8 (Specific to my setup.)
seta s_musicvolume "0.0"				// Default: 0.5 (0.0 for muted.)
seta cg_novoicechats "1"
seta s_khz "44"
seta com_soundMegs "8"
seta dmaHD_enable "0"
//seta dmaHD_interpolation "3"
//seta dmaHD_mixer "10"
//seta s_mixahead "0.8"
//seta s_mixPreStep "0.05"

I just changed "dmaHD_enable" to a value of "1". What about the other settings? Thanks!

check the link biddle posted. its the guide for dmaHD, even though referring for the original built by psychorunner, all info in it still applies.

Oh, I should have done that. Thanks!

I have a follow-up question...I thought in_mouse "-1" was for direct mouse polling, but the link above says that in_mouse "2" is for raw mouse input. What is the difference between these?

in_mouse -1 - Windows input
in_mouse 0 - No input
in_mouse 1 - DirectInput
in_mouse 2 - Raw input

Thanks for the replies, I'll go with in_mouse 2 and stick s_KHz on 44 :)
