Every slot should be reserved for a specific type of weapon to avoid situation when you expect sidearm, but got grenade or bomb.

you mean the order they appear in the nextweap/prevweap menu? (that thing that is default bound to mousewheel)

MP5 will be in an unexpected slot if I picked up it somewhere.

This is actually a good point. They had a fixed order in 4.1 iirc, in 4.2 they dont.
I, and probalby others, rarely notice that because i use number keys to directly access a weapon anyways.

Never the less, this should be fixed in 4.3 imo.

You could bind your switch key to "ut_weaptoggle Sidearm" (or Primary, Secondary, etc, according to your needs).

fictions in the case, important things - are not.
I switch weapons with a mouse wheel: in combat expect mp5, takes the bomb actually. Most crapy 3D shooter...

You could try
bind MWHEELUP "ut_weaptoggle sidearm secondary primary" 


IIRC you can give ut_weaptoggle an order to switch (works with knife, bomb and grenades too, again IIRC)
