network graph pics Rate Topic: -----

Hello everybody,

In last december, with a new UT version download, I think it was "Beta 4.2.021 [15.11.2014]", I have big lags which stop my avatar (and the game which freezes) for a few seconds. I had never had this troubles with old versions, for years and years.

I download the following versions until Beta 4.3.2 [04.02.2017], but this didn't solve my game lags, nor graph pics at up or low lines.

Here is my setting :

seta cl_maxpackets "125"
seta rate "32000"
seta com_processpriority "0"
seta com_maxfps "60"
seta com_hunkmegs "800"


I have big yellow line on up line and big red or black line in low line into the graph.


What do you think ?

Never set maxpackets over maxfps.

Try:

com_maxfps "125"
cl_maxpackets "125"


com_maxfps "60"
cl_maxpackets "60"


com_maxfps "60"
cl_maxpackets "30"

1)
I tried your three suggested config. But I wasn't very convinced by result with still yellow segment sometimes orbig ping.


2)
I set back my network settings with previous version and it is better.
i have almost a very little ping with a up line well, but sometimes I have one or two big yellow segments on up line.

Here is some element of my config, if you have a idea from where theses yellow segment come from :

seta sv_fps "60"

[...]

seta cg_drawtimer "1"
seta cg_drawfps "1"
seta cg_fov "90"

seta r_picmip "0"
seta ut_timenudge "0"
seta cl_packetdup "1"

=> It was quite good but still yellow segments.


3) I change two values : maxpacket 125 and maxfps 125.
=> good but not good enough (ping around 60 (not sure anymore) and still yellow segment)


4) I change again for maxpacket 60 and maxfps 125.
=> good. there were some little yellow pics, not important. The ping is 15 but sometimes it goes to 60.


Additional question : I have snaps 20 and sv_fps 60, I wonder what about snaps 20 and sv_fps 20.

You cannot change snaps or sv_snaps (anylonger). This feature was shortly unlocked with 4.3.0 but locked again due to unexpected issues.

sv_fps is a server variable, independent of your client. Setting it wont do anything (unless you run a server off that same installation). Same would go for sv_snaps, werent it locked anyways.

You want to run com_maxfps 125 all the time. (personal note: i run a 144 Hz monitor, with my OS (windows) and games refreshrate both set to 120. I actually only did this for quicker alt-tab out of UrT in the first place, since i run full-screen. Now ive grown accustomed to it and i recommend it)

Considering your ping, your settings look fine (note: though i recall some "hardcore" optimizations from old q3 guides suggesting setting everything up so that you get whole fractions of your fps, but ive never really bother to do this, so cant give any proper advice here, or even tell you if its worth it for UrT @ 125 fps)

However, if you ping jumps from 15 to 60, i would check your connection. If you are on wifi, maybe some packets get lost (in both directions), causing your game to "freeze" for a moment.

Finally I set : maxpacket:125 , maxfps:125, snaps:20.
I can really feel the difference ! The game is quicker and i can reach people sooner they shot me, easier than before (when maxpacket was 125 and maxfps 60).

TO preserve the game of lack/lost/error of data, I set cl_packetdup "2" (tripple packets duplicated).

At least, the game is faster, the ping is low (around 16 or 17) and sometimes (I haven't measured it), I havedisconnections with two yellow segments.

I noticed, that when your are spectator, you see in your netgrpah the measures of the avator that you take place in. And I can see others players' pings, which are bigger than mine generally.


Thank you, I stay with these settings.
