Hey there , i guess its because of the quite old engine and that you cant change it . But playing 16:9 is painful . The fov is much smaller compare to 4:3 dont know why , since in all games is the other way around .

This. It also leads to the inevitable "4:3" callouts in twitchchat or where ever once a pro doesnt see someone on the edge of the spectator cam. I personally preferr the UrT way. Changing the aspect ratio of your display should not make you see more or less.

Not much to say about this. Basically comes down to the choice of where you want to loose some fov, unless you really want to distort the image. I personally would prefer loosing vertical fov at higher aspect ratios than loosing horizontal fov at lower ones.
