Urban Terror's UI menus open-sourced

in Urban Terror - posted Sunday, 07 December 2014 by FrozenSand

After the recent success of the improved Head-Up Display (HUD) we thought it would be a good time to update the User Interface menus as well.

Updating the menus is a huge project. We received a lot of great submissions from community members, and Frozen Sand artists want to focus their work on Urban Terror Resurgence. Therefore we decided to make the menu files open-source so anyone can participate in updating them.

The menus files are stored on our public Github repository. You are free to fork the repository and send us pull requests so we can review your changes and approve them. When fully finished, the menus will be implemented into a new version of Urban Terror 4.

Please note that the menus style must respect the "Urban Terror theme", ie. dark theme, background grids... If you have any question please contact the FS Dev team on Discord.
Warning: Be aware that the menu icons and images are included on the github repository but cannot be modified due to copyright issues. If you want to update them, you will need to create completely new ones.

We are back! No hacks, no admin errors, just Storage death!

in Misc - posted Friday, 28 November 2014 by FrozenSand
And we are back folks! Firstly, let us apologize for the long downtime. It has been quite a mission to restore services. As we know, you all like a good nerdgasm story, so let's get right to it!

The Event

Sometime around Saturday night, while RaideR was "Busy" with .. well .. let's not go there. Our primary database server suffered a HD failure. This in itself would not be too bad, however, at the exact same time our CDN failed. For those who know, running mysql from a single disc, as well as everything else, basically killed the whole server.

The bring it on moment

Okay ... so when your man bits have basically been sliced off it's time to grow (or in our case upgrade) your set of balls. We are pleased to announce that we have invested in a new set of servers costing in the region of 2,000 Euros for a whole year to continue supporting our "Legacy" version 4.2. To put this into perspective we now use the following "Beasts" to run UrbanTerror.

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1620v2
4c/8t 3,7 GHz+/3,9 GHz+
RAM: 64 GB DDR3 ECC 1600MHz
HardRAID+ LSI 9271-4i CacheVault 1 GB 3 x 600 GB SAS 15K + CacheCade 80 GB SSD

As you can see, we have put provisions in place so that even with a disc failure our servers are MORE than capable of recovering without any down time.

The Migration

Evilelf worked hard to move our physical server to the new Virtual Environment, which took some serious Master Level Geakery. But after just a few days, we had our "Clone Server" in our VM environment. Please send all cookies to evilelf in the attached forum thread.

The Deployment

RaideR then took over the works to complete the alterations needed for the CMS to work in the new environment, after just a night, everything was recoded, reset and pushed live. Please feel free to give RaideR your kind beers in the attached forum thread.

The Continued Development...

FrozenSand are committed to Urban Terror and its community, we take its services and operations very seriously and you have our apologies that it took us this long to restore the game, so please take all your cookies and beers back, have them yourself for your patience and support.

Have a good weekend! <3 the FS Web Team xx

All Star Event

in Leagues - posted Wednesday, 25 June 2014 by FrozenSand
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome, bem-vindo, witajcie, benvenuti to the All-Star champions!

Another season over for the Urban Zone League, and another summer on the horizon. However, before all that, the league has decided to bring to us some more!
Tomorrow evening, the 26th of June at 21 CEST, a streamed show will take place featuring a special match for our All-Star players and the season results.

How were the players chosen ?
The league staff has been busy surfing through all the played matches looking for
players who have demonstrated ‘All-Star’ qualities. This doesn’t mean you’re always finishing top of your team, or to prove yourself the best shooter in Urban Terror. We were looking for individual players who have stood out amongst others, demonstrating individual rounds of skill, or consistent and key performances that have helped their team fight for the victories. It’s not all about shooting, general kindness; helpfulness and sportsmanship have also been considered. So, if you’re amongst their specially selected line-up, congratulations!

How will it work?
Rendez-vous tomorrow at 21 to watch not only TS but also the more dynamic, lively and interesting gametype: CTF
Two maps of each will be played, all of that accompanied with season results announcement and certainly some surprises.

The event will be streamed and shout casted LIVE on www.twitch.tv/urbanzone or www.urbanterror.info/news/tv/ so we hope to see you all there cheering on your compatriots!

If you want to find out who are the All-Star players and know more about the event read the original news.
