Hi I made counter-strike maps back in the day and I want to make maps for a UrT server.

I'm running ubuntu linux. I installed netRadiant and installed missing libs, but I can not find any setting option to point to the urt directory. I have searched online for game packs but the ten year old threads aren't very helpful. There are also broken links to guides all over.

Many of you are still clearly mapping, but what tools are you using and where are the config guides for the modern versions?

Alright, well I found the gtkradiant urt game pack.
https://github.com/Q...nstalls/UrTPack

I created a directory for those files 'netradiant/install/gamepacks/urt.game' and '...urt.game/scripts'
When netRadiant starts up I choose quake(urt isn't listed), then and only then it lets me choose the game directory and game pack. Now when I start netRadiant and choose quake, it does not let me choose directories...

e: and the game packs can be extracted with this:

bsdtar -x -f /opt/urbanterror/q3ut4/zpak000_assets.pk3 --exclude maps
bsdtar -x -f /opt/urbanterror/q3ut4/zpak000.pk3

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Urban_Terror#Mapping

Then when netRadiant lets you choose your directories you can select these.

e:
I used this to get a few of the libraries I didn't have already.

I'm getting some errors in the console when I start netRadiant. Its still not pointing to the urt files.

OpenGL window configuration: colour-buffer = 32bpp, depth-buffer = none
Unable to find default tag file /media/wd/MapMaking/netradiant/install/gamepacks/q1.game/shadertags.xml. No tag support.

This one doesn't have an error after copying 'common-spog.pk3' to my 'netradiant/install/gamepacks/urt.game/' directory. No idea why.

Hi there,

I've always used GTKRadiant myself, while using Windows instead of Linux.

For me, when opening the editor for the first time, a small window pops up automatically which allows you to select the game - Urban Terror (standalone).

Hopefully someone is able to help you ASAP.

You can also join our map making Discord, you might get a quicker response there:

(1) There are few, only 20-30 good light maps. I use these maps on the server. For example:
ut4_aardtimes_www2.pk3
ut4_intermodal_beta.pk3
ut4_gad_dom.pk3
ut4_superman2_beta.pk3

(2) There are 100-200 dark maps. These maps were good for Q3 and for older versions of UrT, but for the newer version of UrT 4.3 these maps are too dark to play.

(3) There are also many, many bad maps.

File archives of maps for UrT:

My IMHO:
Pay your attention to n.(2).
Redo, for example, these dark maps, make them light!

Yeah, let's lighten up the darkness.

Perhaps make a seperate topic for it? Because this one was created by someone with another issue.

Well, make this map lighten for UrT 4.3 ... if you can, of course

... I have a rhetorical question: Are programmers idiots?

Good point, but the difficulty is that the maps are 'owned' by the authors, so we need to contact the map makers to ask for the specific map making file, or ask them to to adjust the lighting themself. Forrest is made by Kaz@@m, I personally don't have his contact details, but perhaps someone else has.

What is the other map that you had in mind? I can not open the link.

You are increasing the problem beyond necessity ...
If you increase the coverage of the map without changing its geometry, the author will only thank you! Of course, you should not change the name of the map, but only add an index to the name, for example ut_forrest_f.pk3 instead of ut_forrest.pk3, and add a list of changes to the txt file and also indicate that you are not the author of the map.
There are many dark maps, there are good maps, but it's impossible to play ...
For example maps with index WOP, series PAD,
https://c0ffee.moe/q...dlibrary_b4.pk3
https://c0ffee.moe/q...wop_bath_b4.pk3
https://c0ffee.moe/q...dshop-fixed.pk3
https://c0ffee.moe/q..._padshop_b4.pk3
Map for Christmas:

so on UrT 3.5

What? I just said I could not open that other map file link you posted.

It's interesting to fix these maps yes, and these WOP maps are great. But even to make suttle changes you would need the .map file, and this is generally not included in the pk3. Now you can retrieve a .map file out of a .bsp file, but if you didn't have the permission to do it, in my opinion you just shouldn't do this at all. These wop maps are extracted from another game so it might be less of an issue, but even after converting .bsp to .map you miss certain elements which you need to add again. So best would still be to contact the author to ask for the .map file.
