I'm running Xorg and yes i think it's faster....I've changed XFree86 4.4 to Xorg, and it's really nice indeed and faster.

Slackware have moved to Xorg in the current and in the 10RC1...so slackware saied bye bye to XFree86 as many distros will do so.

I'm running Slackware 10 RC1 .... I didn't know until I checked the -current ChangeLog :P
But Xorg replaces XFree86 because XF86 changed their license to a non-GNU license.
But!
All you have to do is rename XF86Config to xorg.conf and you have a perfectly valid configuration file :) No need to remake it!
Everything works the same... for the most part. Anyway.. I have the munchies... bbl

I switched to X.org sometime ago but visualworks smalltalk wouldn't start up so I had to revert to xfree86

I'm running 10 RC1 too :P In current ChangeLog you have this :
x/: Switched to X11R6.7.0 from X.Org. Thanks to those who sent comments to
x@slackware.com. Seems the community has spoken, because the opinions were
more than 4 to 1 in favor of using the X.Org release as the default version
of X. I think I've heard just about every side to this issue now, and it was
only after careful consideration and testing that this decision was made.
  (...)
I'd like to take this moment to thank the XFree86 Project for all the truly
amazing work they've done all these years, and to wish the project the best
of luck. Slackware owes the XFree86 Project a debt of gratitude and will
always include the XFree86 acknowledgement, even if we are no longer
  shipping XFree86.

About Xorg.conf mine is the same as XF86Config too ahah :P

Long Live Slackware.
It's the oldest and most mature distribution for a reason...

Anyone of you people tried freeBSD ?
Seems to be quite fast and stable as well, I even got slightly higher fps on quake3 and urban terror.
