Hello.
Easy problem i guess it's a easy solve too :P
When I run q3ut3 with my user I get no sound, If i run with root I get the sound work.
I was wondering why this happens because I got /dev/dsp with full permitions (I guess).

Help ?

If you only get the problem when you run Q3/UrT with your user, I suspect that Q3's/UrT's settings for your user specifically are the cause.
You could move your q3config.cfg and other config files located in /home/<username>/.q3a/baseq3/ (or whatever the q3/q3ut3directory is) to another directory, and then start Q3/UrT again. Then Q3/UrT wil generate a new q3config.cfg because the old one is missing.

Is your user part of the sound-usergroup?

Teheheee, those are BSD/UNIX/LINUX problems that scare DAUs off big time. Like, WTF? USERGROUP? What is it?

Instead of calling him dumb, you, the experienced user could try to help Ingvar.

you say you think you have the proper permissions. But you don't show them. Do you understand that that makes solving your problem more difficult? Also you don't mention if you can play mp3's for instance.

There are two correct setups for the permissions on the sound device:

~% ls -la /dev/sound/dsp
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 jul 20 06:37 /dev/sound/dsp

Which means that root and every member of the audiogroup can use the audiodevice or,

~% l /dev/sound/dsp
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 14, 3 jul 20 06:37 /dev/sound/dsp

Which means that everyone can use the audiodevice.

Anyway you should ask for help on the forums/irc-channel of your distro. They know all about your setup.

Hy,

Login as root, and type:

(kernel 2.4 series)

chmod 666 /dev/dsp
chmod 666 /dev/mixer

If you use kernel 2.6 series + udev:

vim /etc/udev/permissions.d/udev.permissions

locate all sound devices, change all permissions to 666.

:wq!
