I'm currently working (again) on ut_marina and I want it to be different from other maps, one way to do that is to add weather like in ut_rommel. Unlike that map though, I don't want just a lite drizzel... I want a torrential downpour! True Noa comming of the flood type rain!

Is it possible, or yet another pipedream?

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated; I've never completed a map (have lots of half completed crap, but no real maps), and I want to complete this one at least as it has LOTS of potential!.

Try incresing precipAmount to 1024 in the worldspawn

You also need enablePrecip set to 1 for rain.

Quote

enablePrecip : 0 - (default) none, 1 - rain, 2 - snow
precipAmount : up to 1024, number of drops/flakes (256 is good)

Is there a way to rotate the degree of rain within the game? That way it can start out clear, then go to drizzle, rain, downpour, flood, then down again to nada???

Trying to simulate a passing storm front...

radiant/q3map2 übermaster rgoer has made a Q3 map called 'A Year in 3 and a half minutes' that could give you ideas. Lots and lots of scrolling textures appearently. Haven't looked at it myself, you can find it at his home page:

http://www4.ncsu.edu/~rlcordes/

In case you want to ask him questions he's a regular poster at the Splash Damage q3map2 forum

You are aware that you are enroute to make a map that will probably surpass Doom3 system demands?

cheers

I wouldn't recommend it.
I've played some maps that had beautiful rain. Really heavy, and looked quite real. However, it dropped the framerate to about 10-20% what it would be without rain.

This was in vanilla Quake 3, where I have it capped at 120fps and it NEVER goes below that. I was getting framerates in the teens.

I don't know if ET works any better for this, does it?

If not, you're out of luck. Maybe someday some game will have decent weather effects that still allow the game to run fine. :P
