Ok, when I went to re-register it said not to use hotmail cause there were problems. So I registered via my gmail account. Now, when I went to check how to merge my account it says...

"Requirements

Your UrT Passport email address MUST match exactly your OLD Forum accounts email address. You will not be granted a merge unless this is the case. If you can not access your old forum email address, you will NOT be able to request a merge."

How are people who used hotmail on their old accounts supposed to be able to merge their new accounts with their old if they can't activate their accounts since the new system doesn't work with hotmail?

by doing a merge request anyway

or after registration changing the email address back to a hotmail one. I think the main issue is just with the confirmation email, after that it doesn't really matter.
