lol. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised about this. We have an ongoing discussion about evil "killer games" over here in Germany.

But even if they should have success, I don't care very much if some schools block the sites. Because so far, we thankfully don't have a censored web (like many other countries).

Im curious if you guys at FS really are going to attend this "hearing". :) Seems more like an invitation to an interrogation... :(

we have some idiots of politicans in germany ,who believe fps games like Urban Terror are the reason for every amok run in the world, it's sad that our gouverment is so blind and blame video games instead of searching the true reason

What amazes me is that the german goverment forces (everyone has to serve) them to go in the army, and learns them how to shoot guns.

not true. you can serve [as in any other country if you are healthy enough], but you can also work it out in social works.

yeah, kids in urban terror are sort of a plague, really, belive me.

After reading the letter that was sent out, its pretty apparent to me that they are addressing much more than this video game. I wouldn't be surprised if similar letters are being sent out on a massive level to just about any media/object out there that constitutes violence, sexual, or any content deemed inappropriate for minors.

Either way that panel of 12 representatives sounds pretty harsh. Hopefully, this isn't a massive witch hunt as I stated and hopefully they actually consider all of the facts regarding this video game and its history.

One thing that I'm curious about is, if Frozen Sand does not show up to defend their creation, will that negatively impact the results?

I am SHOCKED that this is happening in Germany of all places. Isn't pretty much all of Europe against censorship? Hell, if this was going on in the United States I wouldn't be surprised at all, but in Germany? What is happening here?

It might be note worthy that there are so many other games out there that are more violent than UrT. I wouldn't really say that UrT glorifies violence at the same level of games like Resident Evil, or Quake 2 or 3 does.

1/ There is a jump mod in Urban Terror (this is absolutely not realistic).
2/ The players all look alike and they respawn many times (it is not human).
3/ The graphics have a cartoon hand
4/ Players are much faster than normal human
5/ Sound of Curvestomp is not realistic (a comic hand)
6/ There is a very important teamplay that requires players to each other (medic)
7/ A kill in this game doesn't look likes a real kill (quick medic in CTF)
8/ Funstuff custom (Dragon Ball Z, Homer Simpson etc...) are totaly not realistic.
9/ This game has given rise to large communities in many countries. They speak together on many networks (with their allies and opponents). They organize LAN.

I have no other ideas yet.

I'm french, sorry about my english.

edit : "fun over realism" ;)

i can't imagine all the hundreds of thousands of people who create content that the letter addresses to are going to turn up, maybe a representative will?

i think removing blood/decapitations will only go so far... infact wouldnt that make some (severely distrubed) people think that there are no effects to shooting people.

the government should think about educating people regarding these things instead of hiding them from it. historical paranoia aside, i think they should seek advice of people who have done studies on this thing rather than who can shout the loudest and most emotionally about the subject.

Germany has notoriously been against fps games... it's probably paranoia from some of the first most popular games having references to WWII. They've had special versions of many games that removes 'touchy' subject matter from the game. i'm sure there's a wikipedia article to list the banned/changes to games in germany.

Nice April Fool!

oh wait we're the 14th already :|

F1 for the ability to disable the head explosion animation to "protect minors" etc, i doubt that kind of thing would delay the 4.2 anyway, it's not like adding & balancing new guns or ...
