That is why I'm testing with _skybox.
I tryed to do so the skybox was a solid color and use the lights to affect it, and the add some fog so you should be able to the the lighning but not the skybox itselfe.

It kind of worked...

ut4_antic does not have visible lightning bolts, but it does have cloud lightning. Nice effect and might be of use.
