alternative g_inactivity Rate Topic: -----

g_inactivity
(number of seconds before an inactive player is kicked)

very nice cvar, personally i would kick anyone idle for more than 20 second in other place than spectacor mode.
But most admins won,t so at most servers g_inactivity is set for more than 10 minutes or is not set at all.
and its often cause ridiculous teams imbalance and useless obstacles and free frags on respawn points.

But admins have own reasons for not use g_inactivity
-crowdy servers atract more players
-dont want accidentally hurt some new urt palyer
-better server statistics/rankings
and more

i wonder if its possible to add alternative "g_inactivity" which could move AFKers into spectacor mode and then eventually could be kicked or not by present g_ianctivity
?

g_inactivity, to move people to spectator, f1.

how do you define an inactive spectator though? there could be someone demoing or something, so I'm not too sure on that one

also, someone might want to move this over to the HD suggestions forum, I know the original post was from before then, but if it's there the devs might look at it a bit better :)

no need to

example:

g_moveinactivetospec 30
g_inactivity 60

when system starts count someone as AFK. 30 sec to move him to spectator, next 30 sec to kick him from server

BBB could solve the problem.

Me and my friend just tested, what is written in log just before inactivity drop:

2:57 ClientDisconnect: 1

Unfortunately in logs UrT doesn't put something, which can be "picked up" by BBB.

I see something in games/g_activity that controls sending the warning to the player and kicking the player, but that isn't included in the makefile for the building the server.

g_inactivity is handled by game code - as the g_ prefix suggests.
Since that isn't open source, only FS can do it.

I'm in favor of this idea, after they have been moved into spectate though you could have multiple tests to see if the user is inactive.
Say for every 2nd minute you are in spectate you are asked to press "f5" to show you are not inactive. If you fail to press f5 after you were told to, you are kicked.
