I believe you have to set that in your sound mixer.
What 'Nix distro do you use?

This is done by the application. On recent ioq3 code you can change it on OpenAL. It can be also done by Ikalizer [not available to linux without wine]. On base system - and by inheritance dmaHD - there's no such system though it could be added.

with ubuntu you have to set this in pulse audio my brother uses a usb headset with urban terror sometimes and also with other things. your version uses pulseaudio so it will be in your sound settings

Kubuntu doesn't use pulseaudio by default as far as I'm aware, Ubuntu, yes but I thought the KDE version didn't.

If it does now, then it must be a recent(ish) change.

it was a recent change as far as i can tell i looked it up as i posted the information is very here and there and confusing i must admit but this is straight from
http://www.kubuntu.o...s/10.10-release

PulseAudio

Kubuntu now uses the PulseAudio sound server by default. Building on the efforts of Ubuntu over the last several release cycles, this system is now used by Kubuntu to give users enhanced configurability, flexibility and ease of use. System Settings and KMix have been updated to enhance Pulseaudio control integration.

ps. it looks like it was done to fix a problem with a previous release breaking usb sound devices compatibility. Linux sound in general was a complete mess for a long time and developers have been working hard to fix it and for me in ubuntu 10.10 at least it seems to have worked i have had none of the problems with sound i did before.
