Great work everyone. Please continue in this fashion. Don't forget home-grown tools; posted techniques being best-answer solutions; community resources and their related solutions; etc. An hour of research vested is worth many hundreds or thousands to all. There's a lot of mind-numbing material around here to parse through too!

IMPORTANT TOPIC POINT

Questions! What information should we have both in reality and theory? What development information would be useful to include that may not be available yet?

For example, in 4.0, the player size increased from 64 units to 72. Lighting also changed. This affected a number of design decisions.

Isn't the question who is the target audience we want to reach? Only newcomers? Then no one cares about the 64 -> 72 unit change. A comprehensive companion? Then it would fit.

IMHO, practically, we gather most current information, mark outdated information so (in case it's necessary to know about it for some reason) and move on. Does that make sense?

[color="#FFFFFF"]The content should be geared towards the green noob, the amateur, the experienced, and the proven.

That was answered in the original post. Knowing changes from 4.1 to 4.2+/hd will be important for the transition. The 64->72 unit change is an example.

I'd be willing to pitch in on an installer... especially now that I have a video card that can actually handle bumpy.

LEET
LEET is an experimental tool, which some day wants to be a sort-of level editor :) At the moment, it is mostly a .map viewer and exporter, with the following features :

- Network enabled -- connect to a server and make your changes online
- Multi-user, realtime cooperative editing, with Password protection
- No tokens, no turn-based; full Undo/Redo support. Only data integrity is the limit.
- Full unicode support -- read anything typed by anyone (requires appropriate fonts)
- Various viewing modes -- Wireframe, Hidden line, Textured
- View the map with animating shaders, without the need to compile first
- Animating texture browsers, with prefix or regex filtering
- Export the .map file to DXF, ASE or 3DS
- View using parallel or perspective camera. Freelook camera, panning, zooming
- Various filters -- show or hide sky, nodraw, portals, noclip, .. brushes
- Custom filters
- Arbitrary, user-defined window layout
- Automation enabled (limited functionality)
