Urbanterror UI - Font Sizes Rate Topic: -----

I'm not sure how many people play urbanterror on tv-out, but sometimes I do when I have friends over, and we all play online. The only thing that bugs me, is that on most tv's it is hard to read the words in game. Especially the game browser, that is my only true complaint. The rest we all know what is there. The question here is, would it be possible to add a ui font size setting or even a place to force it in the config? It is only a tad too small, and I understand that things may not fit well. This would be better than seeing mushed together words though. Thanks for the consideration.

well I use s-video and the picture is so distorted it's impossible to play. I think because it's s-video but i looked for a/v out video card i couldn't find one.
Do you use like a/v cables to connect to your tv and if so how distorted does it look
I think that a hd tv would be a lot better because the higher resolution.

Seeing as it is rarely used, no it will not be added or changed.

dragoon: I am using svidio out, from the onboard tvout of my nvidia card. It goes directly to my cheapo no name brand tv. I have no problems playing though. What kind of tv-out card are you using?

My tv shows up to 1024x768...

And btw, 640x480 + 4xAA looks pretty good...

I don't understand, who would not prefer to change the font size of their UI? I change almost all my graphical interfaces to fit my needs (like small fonts).

Is there not a way to change the font of the UI, how much effort would need to be applied if there is currently not a method?

I'll post back with updates, developers please note.

First of all, the post you quoted was posted more than 6 years ago.

There is no way I know of that allows you to increase the font size. You can pick a smaller resolution if you really want to increase the font size.

And why would you want to change the font size? Maybe if you're dyslectic, but the best thing in that case is to decrease the resolution and to learn what everything does, so you can increase the resolution later.

And after 6 years, this issue still seems to exist.

But there is one feature of Mitsubishi's optimized executable
that could mitigate the problem: Unicode support.

It doesn't replace any of the UI fonts, but you can
configure it so that it shows game and chat messages
(Unicode_ChatOutput 1, Unicode_ConsoleOutput 1), then you set
cg_msgHeight and cg_chatHeight to 0 and adjust

------ snip ------
Unicode_Font
Unicode_FontSize
Unicode_PositionX
Unicode_PositionY
Unicode_LineSpace
Unicode_LineSize
Unicode_Color
Unicode_Shadow
Unicode_MessageTime
Unicode_MessageFadeTime
Unicode_Alpha
------ snip ------

to your liking.

Tadaaaaaa!

Pros
  • Nearly every font attribute can be configured.
  • The lines can be much longer than in original UrT.
  • There can be many more lines than in original UrT.
  • The position of the message area is freely configurable.
  • Unicode support (haven't tested that yet, though).

Cons
  • No color support. All text is in the same color. E.g. the
player names won't be output in their appropriate colors.
  • Game and chat messages appear within the same area.
  • Old messages disappear/fade away, but the order seems a
bit random, e.g. not only the top line disappears, but also
    lines in the middle.
