Although I usually game on one of my old Windows machines, I installed UrT on a Ubuntu 10.04 machine that has an ATI HD3850 video card in it running the proprietary drivers. I cannot get the screen to brighten up and have searched and read all the old posts that discussed this issue without finding a resolution that works. Did I miss something? Was this issue never resolved for Linux users running ATI. Obviously ATI and Linux has never been a good combination, but something as simple as controlling gamma in-game shouldn't be a dead end.

What did I miss?

Yes. Tried the slider under system settings and tried adjusting /r_gamma and /r_ignorehwgamma through the console and nothing. I shut down compiz with no change. I can jerk the whole system around by adjusting gamma on the desktop, but I shouldn't have to do that. Last resort is writing a script that changes gamma going in to the game and setting it back when the game is done, but again, I wouldn't think this is the way to go.

r_gamma never worked for me on any of ATI video cards, neither with opensource drivers nor with fglrx.

that's one of the reasons why i moved on to nvidia.

I do that.
I think r_gamma works on mitsubishi's build

Intel is worse then ATI when it comes to linux support (3D rendering, OpenGL) ...

Did you confirm that you are not running windowed? (Alt-Enter) IIRC brightness adjustments only worked in fullscreen for some people

It doesn't work in any mode, but I found a "solution" type "xgamma -gamma 1.6" before open urbanterror.

Gl hf!
