Additional maps made the operation unstable

I tried to launch ioUrbanTerror today and my screen was fading in and out from black a couple of times for about a minute. When the screen stopped going black the game wasn't running. I decided to get some log and see what I could gather:

Also q3config.cfg and autoexec.cfg are both executable

I downloaded the game again. I removed every file left from the previous setup and took a backup of the maps in ~/Library/Application Support/Quake3/q3ut4/ in a different place.
I was playing with the new installation for a while, when I decided to restore my maps back.
I moved my maps back in ~/Library/Application Support/Quake3/q3ut4/ (the cfg file was intact) and started the game again.
Then I realized that I had the same phenomena as before.

I will be moving my maps in batches and gradually find the map producing the problem.
I will update this topic when I have fixed this issue.

could not set the given mode error, refers to resolution. Try opening the .cfg file and setting it to 4 (i think that's 800x600)

Scratch that, i just notices UrT attempted several modes.
What GPU do you have.

I spitted my my maps into 6 batches and putting 1 batch at a time in q3ut4 folder to see if UrbanTerror will run on each batch.
Every batch was ok. UrbanTerror was running like it should so the problem might be that UrbanTerror can't handle too much maps.
I will try to find the map (or size of maps) limit and update this topic when i find out.

Here are the results:

  • 242 files (241 pk3 and 1 cfg file) in q3ut4 folder: The game starts without a problem.
  • 243 files (242 pk3 and 1 cfg file) in q3ut4 folder: The game starts but stays with a black screen. Does not respond, no sound no nothing. I must get out of this using command+option+esc to force quit.
  • 244 files (243 pk3 and 1 cfg file) in q3ut4 folder: The game starts and immediately quits. (fade to black then quit)
  • 245 files (244 pk3 and 1 cfg file) in q3ut4 folder: The game does this weird flickering on screen as mentioned above in the first post.


It might be a map/file limit that the game can handle or it could be the size limit of q3ut4 folder that the game can handle.

If I find the time i could attach some log information right next to every case above.
