memory leak in UT 3.7 and Quake 1.32b Rate Topic: -----

Hi,

sometimes if i join a game or the map changes it starts loading as expected. But then it hangs at "Awaiting snapshot" and keeps loading and loading...

The PC starts swapping and everything gets very slow.
I have to change into console and kill quake3.x86 or X server terminates because of "out of memory" error.

Has anyone the same problem or maybe some useful advice?

That sounds like the "awaiting snapshot" bug to me. I only got it in the earlier releases of UrT. It was fixed a while ago, I have never experienced it since then.

Well, the game says it's UT 3.7 beta with quake3 pointrelease 1.32.
Is there a newer UT version available, without "beta" ?

I had some crashes after many map changes but I noticed it mainly happened with certain maps. e.g. with casa or turnpike or algiers it never ever happens. The odd thing is most of those "unstable" maps would load if they were the first or second to load.

If it's "stuck" in awaiting snapshot yeah, reconnect usually does it.

But since you mention memory leaks, I think I should test it with an wm applet here sometime that shows ram and cache usage or just with "top", maybe it's the reason.

I can confirm that bug. It happens after I quit UT, and then start it again after a few seconds. If I wait at least half an hour it's OK again, or as an alternative fix I have to restart X

Pretty annoying indeed, but I can work around it.
