What's going on with the community?

Hello all,
I've just returned to the game and have found the community scattered across multiple versions of the game. Why are people still playing 4.1 when 4.2 are out? All of my old regular servers are up but running different game versions. What's gone on?
Surely this can't be good for the game?

4.2 was very bugged at launch and IMO it took about 8 months of further work and updates to make it definitively better than 4.1. Frozen Sand has kept up listings of 4.1 on the master server up until the end of last year, and have finally turned it off in an attempt to get people to move onto the new version. There are still some people who think 4.1 is better than 4.2, and some servers and their playerbases are still sticking with 4.1 despite the removal from the official master server list. Other servers have made the switch to the new version and are successful as ever.
If server owners and players want to stick with the old version, at the end of the day it's their decision. In any case, the division between the two versions has been something the community has been dealing with for 18 months.

There are those who have mastered the art of 4.1 and refuse to re-learn different skills for 4.2. As an excuse to not changing, they cite the superiority of 4.1 (re. animations, sr8, etc). There will be virtually zero progress with 4.1 as its development has halted, whereas 4.2 has new energy being poured into it lovingly.

I don't know why Urban Terror gets so little exposure on web sites like Slashdot. Even 4.2 release wasn't announced there. Why didn't anyone submit a story?
UrT definitely has good things going for it.
Big community
Many populated servers
The game runs on pretty much on any hardware (including Intel HD Graphics 3000)
Cross platform
Easy to get started

that's not necessarily true..
i think it was a wise deciscion not to give 4.2.001-017 too much exposure ..
fs might have risked becoming the laughing stock of many if they presented 4.2 as a finished game
if you don't like uptown, you are basically hating urban terror.

Karl, Urban Terror is never a finished game. It has been a beta since 1.0.
Well, I guess what Karl wants to say is: Now that the game is decent and adopted by UZ and PUGBOT, it might be time to advertise the BETA version. (and consider 4.2.001 - 4.2.0016 as alphas)
