please type in a terminal:

uname -a

This is to confirm whether you are running 32-bit or 64-bit Linux. For UrbanTerror, only use what matches.

If you are running 64-bit Linux, then only try to lauch 64-bit UrbanTerror

Linux myname-unity 3.13.0-46-generic #79-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 10 20:06:50 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The way I turned on the game has not changed
I have three ways

If I drag these files into the terminal

'/home/myname/Downloads/UrbanTerror42/UrTUpdater.x86_64'

'/home/myname/Downloads/UrbanTerror42/UrTUpdater_Ded.x86_64'

Or access the Ubuntu menu

When I downloaded the game files for the first time

I downloaded two files that deployed to four files

UrTUpdater.i386
UrTUpdater.x86_64

UrTUpdater_Ded.i386
UrTUpdater_Ded.x86_64

i install the with the second file
I dragged him into the terminal and hit enter
the installation Deployed the files to two folders
/home/.q3a/q3ut4

and
/home/q3ut4

In the main folder there are six files
/home

Quake3-UrT.exe
Quake3-UrT.i386
Quake3-UrT.x86_64
Quake3-UrT-Ded.exe
Quake3-UrT-Ded.i386
Quake3-UrT-Ded.x86_64

That's how it worked until the updates

Under "System Settings", launch "Additional Drivers". Does it say you are using the proprietary Nvidia driver or the free one? If it says you are using the free driver, you will likely need to switch to using the proprietary driver.

Are you sure you were on the free driver before the updates? Nvidias free driver is pretty terrible, Id be surprised if you would get playable frame rates with it. In a previous post of yours, it said that "nvidia-settings" is auto-removable; nvidia-settings is the GUI-frontend to the proprietary Nvidia driver. I can not think why this would be installed if you were not at some point using the proprietary driver

I respect if you do not wish to use the proprietary driver. That said, I highly recommend switching to the proprietary driver, rebooting your system, and then trying Urban Terror again and seeing if it works.

Noveau isnt THAT bad. It might be a decent Idea to try the proprietary drivers, however I would suggest that instead of debugging your current setup, try removing the files and installing a second time from scratch. This will most likely catch whatever went wrong after your ubuntu updated.

I was under the impression that (at least about a year ago) the single best performing free driver setup was using the radeon driver with a Radeon 6870. So, I bought a Radeon 6870 and ran the free driver to play Urban Terror. Performance was OK. Not great. Definitely would not have wanted anything worse.

I switched to the proprietary driver only because some devs decided to disable the ability to force AA, thus leaving me without anti-aliasing for Urban Terror. I do not like going backwards in time. I switched to Catalyst and now have very good AA and noticably better frame rates. Still not as good when I had a GTX560Ti running the proprietary driver, but I prefer AMD because they put decent effort into supporting a free driver, which I do care about even if I dont use it at this very moment.

Im just not 100% convinced that the free driver was being used before the update. Although what Im about to say contradicts what the OP has stated, I think that what went wrong after the update was that the proprietary driver was in use before the update, and the install reverted to the default free driver after the update.

Why else would nvidia-settings CURRENTLY be installed? Maybe Im missing something.

But yes I do think a fresh download of the game is a good idea, but launch the game from the terminal not some menu icon.
