Hmm, weird... So starting the game as you asked worked fine, making it obvious that it's File Explorer that froze and couldn't start the game. It might have to do with an old slow computer first asking me to trust the lack of certificate.
Even more weirdly starting the game with the console fixed File Explorer choking at the next attempt. . .

Ah-ha! Very odd. Would you mind trying to launch the game with the Quake3-UrT.exe file from 4.2.023? Just to make sure it's not a regression in the engine code.

I love the Benelli according to what I already saw .
Except it has just 5 rounds capacity . Come on .
No time nor space on the hard right now , will check it these days & will tell you for sure .
& so far I am not able to see a reason Benelli to not be able to contain 8 shells within .

Even after a restart the new Quake3-UrT.exe is launched without file explorer choking. Swapping it out for the .exe from 4.2.023 does the same, and I could connect without any problems to the Instagib server.
My guess would be, that it's purely a problem with file explorer and the certificate warning on Windows 10. Since my computer is so old and slow, file explorer somehow was incapable of starting the game, after I clicked on "Run anyway" on the certificate warning pop-up. This didn't get fixed by the big Windows 10 update I installed in between the first few attempts.
I suppose the only way to solve this would be changing the security settings on Windows or giving the .exe a Code Signing. But, I wouldn't be surprised, if the latter turns out to be expensive or difficult.

How do I use a custom crosshair?

You'll need to create a third party pk3 with an updated scripts/urbanterror.crosshair file referencing the paths to your new crosshair's .tga images.
2 questions:
1) if i add a zzz*.pk3 with single crosshair in /scripts/urbanterror.crosshair, wouldnt that overwrite all other crosshairs?
2) how does it work with sv_pure? aka does the game simply add the crosshairs found in 1) to the list, so sv_pure is not a problem and default crosshairs dont get overwritten?
Sorry for my bad spelling - I am still asleep. :)

1) You need to add your new crosshair information to the bottom of the urbanterror.crosshair file, under the existing crosshairs.
2) There won't be issues with sv_pure as long as you do not edit the official .pk3 packs directly. Create a new empty pack, name it zzzSomething.pk3 and add your files there.
