Hello everyone!

I was a die hard UT player when I was young (8 or so years ago), and recently came back after remembering how much fun UT was. Needless to say, even on top of the nostalgia bias, the game is still extremely fun - I'm amazed by what a fantastic job the dev team and community have done in keeping the game thriving!

Moving forward with UT, I'm curious as to what you plan to do with audio? I could only find this new audio, which is pretty fatiguing and doesn't have the old-school charm of UT, and the original sound designer (unifiedtone) seems to be inactive, even outside of the forums. While I don't want to tread on anyones toes, I would love to offer my services to the team in helping bringing the audio engine up to date. I am an audio engineer who has been working in games and film for a while now, and have experience developing audio engines for games using UE4. I'll link a couple bits of my work at the end, and will try and upload a UE game I made in 4 days to test the audio engine.

Even if you wanted to keep the 'old school' vibe similar to the old low-quality samples, a week working with sound ques in UE4 would drastically improve the games audio. If you wanted, you could even use an external audio engine such as Wwise, an industry standard for advanced audio engines, which UT would be able to use for free since it is non-commercial.

Whether or not you would want my help or not, it would still be great to open a dialogue about improving the audio in UT - It's such an important component of any game!

SightLine: The Chair I did the audio (aside from the intro) and game design.
Spectre Audio design, narration, video production and game design.
UE4 Audio Test: Debra's Island. (will add a download later) Only implemented the audio, all sounds (bar narration) was sourced online

The video of UrT HD you linked to is old and uses stock UE4 FPS sound effects. You can hear never versions in this video.

Nevertheless, the sounddesign you are capable of delivering sounds great, and could be a great asset for UrT HD.

@Ikslorin That's awesome, it's so strange seeing the maps brought up to date..

@Barbatos I'll pop on the IRC soon then! Will shoot an email if I don't catch anyone on there,

@BladeKiller Of course! The quality on Commercial License 0 stuff is pretty inconsistent, I'll usually record my own sounds or use restoration programs like izotope to try and increase the quality :) Perhaps you could still use help with implementation into the unreal engine?

Hey UrbanChamp, welcome back around !

Really liked all your works, Spectre seems like a nice one :)

Did you buy yourself an oculus to develop the game?

Thanks Biddle! If you get the chance to try a VR headset, definitely give SightLine a go, its pretty trippy! Spectre suffers from being multiplayer - Pretty much HAVE to play with friends since the user base is so small.. Lessons learned I guess!

Yeah, I've been working pretty much exclusively in VR for the past three years - have ended up working on a fair few projects! Been slow lately as I'm finishing an Audio Engineering degree, but probably going to be start working with the Vive soon on a new project. It's a very fun medium to design for, and has brought a new push for improved audio, especially with things like binaural/positional audio :)
