Project based mapping idea?

OK we have been talking off and on about the idea of working on a community based mapping project by breaking things down into bite size pieces and making the base build available for anyone who wishes to work on at their leisure as a means to kick start map development with a few goals in mind.
Of course the main goal is to get builders involved as far as building the necessary entities that the map designer would like to have access to with out having to wait for FS to do it.
Second goal is to create a work flow that will allow more than a single individual to work on a large scale and form their own mapping clans or crew and make map making fun and fresh once again.
What we are willing to do is search through our own resources and find a popular map and structure it as being suitable as a large scale project and set up the means to access the project.
The objective is to learn by doing small things as part of a larger project no matter the skill level so feed back would be of value at this stage to see if it's worth the effort as a priority aka make your vote count.

Yay, sounds cool.
Though I have trouble understanding what the plan is, are you/we trying to create a team working together on one "tutorial" map in a UrT-Community-Learns-to-Map Project?
Or did you just propose to give us a small example map upon we can build some custom maps and we report our personal struggle in creating a map so you can make a future "construction set" to make it easier to map for the game once it is released?
Either way (or if it is none of the above) I am very interested.

Good questions and the simple answer is all of the above.
Part of the end goal would be to create a means for an individual who is interested in map making to be come involved in a living project in a similar manner as individual talent would work on a video game based on unique talent and skills.
Historically making a map for Urban Terror on the idtech3 engine has been an task that could only be preformed by a single individual working on "their" map project from beginning to end where with UE4 being a closed edit environment it's now possible 1 or 1000 builders working on the same map project in the same manner as those with the talent who work on the game actual.
It all starts with a single though of why just have 1 person working on all tasks necessary to make a map and settle for what works or have 100 individuals doing the thing they can do best and see where it goes from there?

Yes in that case sound like a plan, if the idea is to create 1 pre release map as a project or a list that names assets/entities that need to be checked off.
To enable multiple people working on it at once and each is able to take bite sized chunks to work on and submit for approval.
Maybe it would be a good idea to either post a list/workflow or even examples of what sort of things are needed to participate.
