Going mental can't see the zpak000 Rate Topic: -----

Mapping: Urt 4.3.4, and GTK 1.5

Urban Terror looks a little differnet under the hood since 4.2
I can't for the life of me find the zpak000

I gone over all the .pk3, still nothing.

Urban terror 4.3.4
GTK Radiant 1.5

I know this wont be my last issue, kind of hoping someone tells me there is no zpak000 any more 'cause it's driving me mental.

Edit: I'm going to download 4.2 and make sure it's not just me. My old 4.2 maps are loading fine on 4.3.4 so is probably a reasonable solution.

Edit: these are actually 4.1 maps and are loading fine.

I've installed urt4.2 and there is still no zpak000?


I have a total of 33 .pk3 files, none are zpak000.pk3

zUrt42_0001.pk3 through to zUrt42_0030.pk3
It feels like the zpak000 is expanded into 30 different files.

That is exactly what happened. The single large archive of 4.1 was split into the zUrT4#_###.pk3 so that the updater does not have to download the entire thing. Extract those and it all works just like it did for 4.1.

Edit: Thanks forthe reply Lye I tried that, 3 times, and I didn't have much luck. Maybe it was just too different to what I'm used to.

I woke up this morning a 5.30am, I haven't had many days off since the start of December, it's all a blur honestly, and I wanted to look at my old maps and play with radiant. It's now 11.30pm...

I've just downloaded urt 4.1 with the zpak000 etc. I've re-familiarised with the internal workings of radiant.

A few extra notes,
common-spog.pk3 is harder to find but still out there, you'll need urbanterror.def for radiant, and I found my old notes on this forum.

Still love this community, it's been a great day back among it. Fingers crossed this time goes smoothly and quickly.

Edit: all going smoothly and quickly, already usable. A few last tweeks.

It works exatcly the same, you just need to extract 20 archives instead of one. Also note that you might miss textures in 4.3 when mapping in 4.1. But you should not rely on base game textures anyways.


One that that did definetly change is the interface (and shortcut keys) for radiant from 1.5 to 1.6. I personally never made the switch because of that.

I'm used to 1.5 too, I use original textures mainly.

Just compiling a box map now, q3map2toolz didn't offer urban terror as an option... looking into it.

Sometimes the solutions are so simple.

I needed to highlight the field so I could type the name.

So I've made a box map again, all working.

Going to try 4.34 next,

What should I do when there is a conflict?

Many times a file is unzipped with a name already in use. If it's a folder I can merge them but sometimes files are replaced.

Replacing files with the most recent seems like the logical thing to do, but that may leave some information missing.

Found this today, it's a massive list of urt maps. A heap of mine in here which I'd lost.

Edit: since the .pk3 have been broken down into several smaller files due to the update system, I will only and always use the most recent file version. I will no longer merge folders but instead replace them as I unzip urt4.34

Edit: do I need new urbanterror.def and entities.def documents or will I still use the same ones from 4.1

Edit: regarding configure Q3Map2Toolz

Longname of the game: Urban Terror
Short name of the game: urt
-game statement: 'n/a' (blank field)
Base Folder: baseq3
Name of the game exe: Quake3-UrT.exe
?

As a question, because it doesn't seem to work

Edit: and commons don't work in GTK, so it isn't the same.

Conclusion: it isn't possible to use the 'same' process in 4.34 as 4.1

I have made a list of the steps I've taken each step of the way for review if this progresses in anyway.

NEVER update 4.X to 4.Y inplace. If you want a clean mapping setup for 4.3, create one. Dont extract the new files into an directory already containing old ones. The conflicts may very well come back as a bigger issue at some point. If you want to keep your file/path structure, just delete the contents of q3ut4/ and then extract the new files there.

The .def files for 4.1 will work fine, no changes were made to any of the map elements.

Regarding q3map2 setup, i will just drop my final build script i used years ago here. Its derivated from a script from some tutorial i dont remember anymore.

Regarding commons, you may lack the commons.shader. If they dont look properly you are missing the common texture file/pk3. Try searching around for it. Custom Map Makers is a good start. You may also want to join their discord, or the official UrT discord for more direct help.
