Hi guys!
I make a collection of interesting beautiful bright FFA / TDM maps for my UrT 4.3.4 server.
I looked at a lot of maps on these biggest archives:
http://maps.bihanbreizh.fr/q3ut4/ // 584 maps
https://fallin-angels.org/q3ut4/ // 1420 maps,
https://maps.pro-gam...vers.net/q3ut4/ // 1762 maps
https://sebsauvage.net/q3ut4/ // 2223 maps

I liked old map ut_forrest.pk3
This map is very dark, so I can not use it ... Player's parameter “r_gamma” (or “brightness”) is bad, because decreases contrast and color.
Can you fix this old map, make it brighter?
This is a big problem?

First off, please dont just write into some random topic. Open a new one.

Secondly, modding maps is generally not allowed. You can contact the original map maker and ask them for permission though.
Sorry for my bad spelling - I am still asleep. :)

Those. “you can not spoil the maps” ... Ok ...
15-20 years ago, the UrT / Q3 gamma-parameter was 1.8-2.2, and the mappers made the maps ... and the maps were good brightness..
UrT then set the gamma-parameter to 1.2 ... and the old maps turned dark ... Ok ...
Then UrT deleted 200 Mb of textures, and there were holes in many old maps ... Ok ...
Now 7-10-15 years have passed, the old mappers lost interest in the game UrT ... maybe 1% will respond to the letter: “I have children / grandchildren / work, I forgot everything, do not bother with your nonsense” ... Ok

Why all this?
It would be nice to have the instructions “How to restore the brightness of the map” and “How to restore / add texture maps”
I do not ask you how to restore textures of the map, I know that ( You need a program bsp.exe and 10 minutes)
But I do not know how to restore the brightness of the map, so I ask.
Is it difficult / impossible / forbidden?
Ok ... I’ll throw this map away: no map - no problem. :)

In general modifing a map is not allowed, as the original author has the rights to it. Of course that can be different from map to map, most maps will include a readme for this.

To fix textures, you would not need to modify the map itself, just include the shader file and textures in a re-package.

However, to change (fix isnt an appropriate term here, since it was created that way and isnt broken) the lighting you need to actually modify all light sources and shaders and rebuild the map, especially its lighting stage. In my eyes this is a different thing than repackaging with missing textures will preserving credits.

I should also add that even repackaging a map may be discouraged by some map makers.
