I moved your topic to the appropriate subforums.

Regarding your sun skybox shader, it has been a while since i last did any mapping.
My bet is that your skybox is just too dark. This can happen rather quickly if there are no other lights on the map.
According to the documentation surfacelight does choose its colour based on the avg texture colour, so that makes it darker still. Generally you want to use skylight for the skybox and sunExt for a skybox.

Check out the forums and resources over at Custom Map Makers as well.
Sorry for my bad spelling - I am still asleep. :)

I use q3map_sunExt on a texture, I haven't used a skybox for a while either

q3map_sunExt #r #g #b, #intensity[contrast; high is dark shadow], #degrees[0east 90north 180west 270south], #elevation [0sunrise/sunset 90noon], #deviance, #samples

ie q3map_sunExt # # # # # # 3 16

the first three numbers are the colour in RGB
next is the intensity, which I see as similar to contrast
the next two numbers set the angle of the sun, degrees and it's elevation
the last two numbers, are it's deviance and then the number of samples

There is always lots to learn and I have a very basic understanding but I hope this can help.

Turn up the intensity, maybe closer to 400/500, will be a blaring bright day

q3map_sun 1 1 1 500 0 90

and adjust the angle

q3map_sun 1 1 1 500 0 45

Below is a script I wrote for a 'dull depressing sky late afternoon?', it's intensity is very low (110)
q3map_sunExt 1 0.90 0.50 110 140 40 3 16
