Ive been mapping for around 6 months [I guess] and it is becoming very obvious to me that I missed a vital part of my instal, dont think I correctly specified the path to the quake3 dir
So I have opened gtkradiant1.5,
Click Edit
Click Preferences
go to Settings
select Paths
Path Settings, Engine Paths //this is C:/UrT41Mapping/
I am going to change this to C:/UrT41Mapping/baseq3/
cross my fingers and hope it worked
My aim is for gtk to read the urbanterror.def file
If it is obvious to you that I have this very wrong, such as I need to reinstal to set the correct path, or some other suggestion, please make it now
"Be sure to correctly specify where your quake3 directory is."
It obviously didnt work; can someone suggest how I could get the urbanterror.def to work? or in other words how to tell gtkRadiant1.5 where the quake3 directory is?

NulL, on 15 November 2009 - 11:24 AM, said:
It should be in q3ut4/scripts
It currently lives in my Urban Terror mapping folder, in the baseq3 folder...
Ill try it in the scripts folder, is the next best place to try, ty Null
[edit] didnt work either, it was already in the scripts folder...
I found a file called wf_entities.def in the Mapping folder [ OS_Install (C:)/UrTMapping/ ]
So I tried adding the urbanterror.def here too, didnt seem to work
It has been living in my C: UrTMapping/baseq3 , this doesnt work
I tried it in;
C: UrTMapping/baseq3/q3ut4
C: UrTMapping/baseq3/q3ut4/scripts
in C: UrTMapping ,
C: UrTMapping/q3ut4
C: UrTMapping/q3ut4/scripts
these dont work either
[edit]; The issue must be with specifying where the urbanterror.def is
I will leave one copy in baseq3 folder which is where the istall guide suggested.
I will keep looking in gtkRadiant for some where I might be able to specify the path to the .def file

I never could get he mapmaker batch to run right.
Instead, I just unpacked all the stuff from the pk3 files into my q3ut2 folder, and I downloaded gtkradiant1.5 and set up a few things.
I ran through some of bubba's arena tutorials, made a (room) BSP from radiant, and tested it. Worked great.
I am going to do some more tutorials tomorrow and probably play with making a very rudamentary map to play in... just for the fun. But I have a feel that since I never went through that batch, I missed out on some things (like the pref and proj files and stuff) that will come back and haunt me.

Run-time error '713':
Class not registered.
You need the following file to be installed on your machine. MSSTDFMT.DLL.
I have that file on my machine.
My god... all I have been doing for hours is jumping through hoops.
When does the fun ever begin?

I suppose if all this were too easy, There'd be a bunch of crappy maps everywhere?

One thing I am stuck on ATM. I don't have common textures (like 'hint', 'clip', 'weapclip').
I was able to find common.shader online, but not the textures.
I'm not sure why but they didn't unpak from the pk3 files for me.
