The main cause of this is the server having too many players on and the client taking a long time to load the map.
Basically the clients message buffer gets filled & overflows while the client loads a map. If theres a lot of players on a server and the client has the slowest computer, all the other players will enter the game before him. The server will flood the client with 'playerXYZ entered the game' & 'playerXYZ joined the blue/red team'. Your message buffer overflows and you get the error. But when you reconnect all the other players are already in game and so you dont get lots of messages and the buffer doesnt overflow.
