Hey,

Anybody has experience with running 2 servers on one machine? I've got 1 server running on it now. The machine Im using is a Celeron 1300, with 1GB of ram. The servers should both be 14 player servers.

Stats of it are here: http://www.snt.utwen.../stats/#hexehyl

Will the 2nd server cause lag on the 1st one and vice versa? Is there anything special I have to configure, besides using a different logfile and port?

I cant say for sure the specs on the machine will hold 2 servers with 14 ppl, that depends also on your upstream bandwidth, however to be able to get PB to work you should use the"homedir" thingy.

They explain this quite good in evenbalance:

Each instance of the game server must have its fs_homepath server cvar set to a distinct location. Fs_homepath can be set on the command line that launches the server and admins should set up a separate directory for each running server instance and make sure the various running servers point to those separate directories. For example, say you have servers A, B and C. You can create the following directories:
/users/whatever/q3-a
/users/whatever/q3-b
/users/whatever/q3-c
Then in your command line for launching server A, add "+set fs_homepath /users/whatever/q3-a" to the other parameters you have. Add similar corresponding items to the command lines for servers B and C. By doing the above, the multiple PB servers don't conflict with each other during updates.

Thanks very much for that, I have done that. I now got a /home/games/quake3/.q3a and a /home/games/quake3/.q3a2.

The servers bandwith is 100mbits, so that should cover it =]

You mean its better to have to cheap machines then 1 expensive?

I gues... too bad we dont have the resources to buy more machines at my univsersity. (not for a second Urt-server that is)

were actually running 3 ports from DENVER and 5 ports from Los Angeles... no problems or hitches. Biggest thing... was getting PB to work right :/
