Hello,

I just downloaded the 4.1 zip file, opened up perms on the 136 executable, fired it up and immediately get a black screen and the old "out of range" message on my monitor. I hear sound and such and am able to escape back out to the desktop, so I know it's starting. I have a 19" wide screen running at 1440x900.  I tried modifying the q3config.cfg file and changing what I thought were the resolution lines to 1440 for width and 900 for height, but no dice. Anyone else experience this with UT or Quake?

I have an Nvidia 6800 GT. I also have other games that run fine in full screen at 1440x900 (Unreal Tournament, Guild Wars, etc). Some native Linux, some use Wine.

Weird. Have you tried deleting the config file? Usually that clears most stuff up.

Yeah, I found that animation in the Urban Terror pk3 file actually. It's from Lazy Town! hehe :D

Yeah, I tried modifying it and even deleting it and still get the same issues. I'm not sure what res it's actually trying to start it, but I figured the config file would be the source for that.

Change the r_mode to -1, and use the customheight and customwidth ones.

Or just set r_fullscreen to 0. That should work for sure.

Why the hell does linux not support 800x600 by default often? How retarded can an OS be? Ah well...

Thanks, that did the trick. It's not really Linux, but rather the default X11 settings that seem to ignore resolutions other than what's native for your card/monitor. I think this is actually something new, as you used to have to enter all the resolution "modes" in the config file, but in the newer releases, I haven't seen them in there, so it must more automatic now.

Thanks!

I just think ANY distribution out there should make sure that common resolutions like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 should work. It's just silly not to. Ah well, problem solved.

Oh! Could you please check if r_mode 3 (640x480) DOES work? I'd like to know if that IS supported, so I can make it the new default.

Yep, r_mode 3 works fine... though it isn't pretty :)
