Bad idea to resurrect a several month old thread with one word spam. good way to get these things locked/deleted.

have to disagree with beta 2 series being the "golden age"
There was quite the exodus of players when stamina, anti-lag, and massive movement penalties came out.
I have to say, and I believe most of the REAL old skoolers like ]$[ will agree, that beta 1 through 1.27 were the golden days. Community, pubbing, clanwars, and the friggin game itself. NO STAMINA. praise jesus.
In any case beta 2 was when many players left the game (personally founded iCu* navy seals: covert operations division).
BTW, the american clan listing is missing a lot I think? (at least from the beta 1 side of things)

bunch of others i forget

It's incredible to think that even this thread is 12 years old by now.
For the record I used to go by pod.Spark, and it fills me with an unreasonable amount of pride to be mentioned in this chronicle
It really was a great time, and my fondness of those memories is why I just can't let go of the game. It's been a constant inspiration and honestly even my professional life would not have been the same without that experience.
It's impossible to recreate the magic of something completely new and different, but the fact that people are still playing after 20 (!!) years says it all really.
The legacy deserves to go on, even if it's just the few of us keeping the candle lit and having a good time in the process.
At this point I am convinced that Urban Terror will live (and evolve!) for as long as KBM shooters exist. Lately we've seen a number of retro-inspired shooters enter the market with Diabotical and Valorant in particular, which is proof that the old ways still have merits and there is a yearning for going back to the basics. I have no doubt that a refreshed Urban Terror can still have a place in this environment, whether or not it will ever (again) reach the heights we know it to be capable of.
