in Leagues - posted Wednesday, 01 February 2006 by FrozenSand
Skilled or just lucky? Know how to handle the heavy metal? We are talking the SR-8, skeet and screaming, "PULL!!!" The World Wide Urban Terror Skeet Shoot Tournament sponsored by Ballz Deep is back for their second year. What is skeet shooting? It uses the Urban Terror level, ut_skeetshoot2005 and one side of a team acts as skeets, and th other team as the shooters. The gravity is set so the skeet players float off on a skeet shooting range, until they hit the back wall or ground. In the tournament, the skeets will be played by bots and you will be shooting at them using the SR-8 or the PSG-1. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 11 beginning at 10PST/13EST/18GMT and the finals will be held Sunday, February 12 (Time TBA). The tournament uses :30 minute time slots and each registered player will select one time slot from the server they wish to play on. When your time comes, you are required to show up and play two 10 minute rounds. High scores will be recorded and the top skeet shooters will move into the finals. Urban Radio on Inside The Game will be live during the finals on Sunday to cover all the action live and see who will be the top gunner in 2006! Last year's winner was Fab1an scoring 162 points in the finals. Other notable gamers who placed, [PIT]EraserEngine, -=BR=-Headshot, tarquin, chuckdizzle|poop, |it|Hybridesque, Katya, digismack, |fn|Oneleg and [LoK]Gone_Mad. Development Update

in Urban Terror - posted Tuesday, 24 January 2006 by FrozenSand
The development team has been very ?hush hush? since the start of the new year in regards to the ?3.8 patch? scheduled for release later this year. Since the start of 2006, the team has made great strides in continuing development for Urban Terror. ?We are pleased with the work that has been accomplished this month,? said BladeKiller.

QA testing is in full swing with a near full team comprised of gamers through out the world with a wide Urban Terror background and varying skill levels (please no Oswald sucks jokes). Our testers have been available nearly 24/7 play testing an array of different features and all the updated levels to ensure they are problem free. Special thanks to the clan leaders on QA who have been instrumental in organizing test play sessions. We do want to mention Woekele, tango, String and Kr0m for their continued support, as well as the other gamers participating on the QA Team.

As for details to what is included in the release, we will continue to keep those within the team, but many of the features and fixes we were after have been accomplished and are being tested on a continual basis. What is not really a surprise are the levels that will arrive with this release. Currently there are some 20 levels being modified, test played. These levels are a mix of development team created and community supplied levels. As in the past, we have shown off some of the work, such as the levels from Masheen, as well as the work INVIS continues to do on his levels. Many of the current levels will still be supported and played, some with changes to improve the playability (changing spawns or flag spots for example). We are also including some never before seen levels courtesy of Riche.

Thanks for the Maps!

in Urban Terror - posted Monday, 23 January 2006 by FrozenSand
It is with much regret the Urban Terror Community says good bye to a long time support web site for the mod. As of February 1, 2006, MidgetKiller will be shutting down the Urban Terror Map Depot, citing "lack of interest" and a "change in goals."

The Map Depot has been a mainstay in the community for a few years with MidgetKiller at the helm, hosting and maintaining the site as new files for Urban Terror were released over the years. He has helped many gamer out by providing those hard to find levels for the mod and has been a wonderful source for help when it comes to gamers interested in level design.

Silicon Ice Development (now Frozen Sand) wants to extend their thanks to Brian Hill for all his time and effort put forth over the lifetime of the Map Depot in support of Urban Terror and most of all in support of the community that rallied around his web site. This will be a difficult site to replace as the amount of information contained within will have no home.

Please take time to show your appreciation of thanks for what MidgetKiller accomplished at the Map Depot. Both him and the web site will be missed terribly. From those of us on the development team, we extend our thanks for what you have done for the team, such as creating and hosting our current web site. Your support and talent will be missed. Best of luck with your future endeavors!

Welcome Forum Admins!

in Website & Forum - posted Thursday, 22 December 2005 by FrozenSand
As we posted last month on the Urban Terror Forums, the development team was looking to shift some of the forum responsibility to the community. In the past we have extended moderator positions to community gamers, but this time around, we wanted to hand over the reins of (Thread closed. Thank you, drive thru...) power over to some in the community whom we feel will help foster a good relationship between themselves, the community and the development team. We received many applications from gamers in the Americas and Europe, after all we are ONE community when it comes right down to it. While it took some time sorting through the gamers, possibly inqurying for further information, we have selected two community members who will become the new admins for the Urban Terror Forums. Please help the development team welcome Preat and Kr0m. Preat hails from Gothenburg, Sweden where he works as the head director for one of the largest food retailers in Scandinavia. He is also a father of four children, ages 3, 8, 13, 16 and his biggest interest lies in computers as well as music. His Urban Terror story, "I have played Urban Terror for almost 3,5 years now. It all started with 2.4 and my wife was pregnant and the only thing i was able to do was to sit by my computer...Today i still play a lot but more for fun as i wanna do the "other thing" with Urban Terror, such as admin matches on cb cups and doin gtv as well. Im co admin at FRO servers and admin them as well along with Head Admin/Founder, Joe." As for Kr0m, he lives up in the frozen tundra New Brunswick, Canada, where he works for an auto parts company and has one daughter, age 6 and a step-daughter age 14. His interests include, movies, technology, automobiles, nature and politics. As a long time player, "one day in the year 2000, I did a search for Quake 3 mods and I found Urban Terror and I've been with it ever since while 'dabbling' with various other games as well. What keeps him coming back for more? "I'd definitely have to say that it's the community and the friends / contacts that I've made within the community over the years. Secondly, it would be the consistently fast paced action of the game (especially in Capture The Flag).

Locked on Levels: Crossing

in Urban Terror - posted Sunday, 18 December 2005 by FrozenSand
As mentioned in a previous update, we will be including some level created by community level designers. One such developer is MaSheeN, of ut_eagle fame, the WW2 based, CTF level. Previously we showed off a few screenshots of his latest offering called Ambush, but we are pleased to also annouce the addition of ut_crossing to the the upcoming release.

The level was orignially released for 3.0, but MaSheeN has been working on the level again, updating it and streamlining the game play to have it included. The level takes a page out of the 1980s and the USSR, as this industrialized complex hold many "secrets." Now, vital documents have turned up missing that proves the existance of this facility, which has been denied by the government.

There have been a number of changes on this version, such as the removal of a section of underground corridors. Lighting fixtures have been replaced and the lighting in general as been increased through out the level. All game types, except CTF and "some DM spawns" have been removed (this level will support Bomb).

Coming next, we will show off some level shots of Suburb...

Urban Radio Postponed

in Urban Radio - posted Friday, 16 December 2005 by FrozenSand
It is with much regret that I postpone URBAN RADIO for Saturday, December 14 because of a schedule conflict. Inside The Game are in attendance at two events, one in Texas, USA and over in Shanghai, China. Due to the demand of bandwidth required for both audio and video, all non-related events and shows were postponed.

This means we will be without URBAN RADIO for one more week, but will return on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24. We will plan on having an Urban Radio Server of the Week up and running, along with all the news and notes from around the Urban Terror Community. Again, let say I apologize for this postponement, but we will get the show in and it will bring you up to date in what is going on.

As our gift to you, we will post a few new screenshots and some news on the web site later on Saturday to help carry you though this weekend.

Nations Cup IX: Come One, Come All

in Leagues - posted Friday, 16 December 2005 by FrozenSand
For the first time in Clanbase Nations Cup history, they will adopt more than one game mode to play throughout this cup season. Unlike seasons past where the gaming was Team Survivor, Capture the Flag or Bomb Mode, the cup supervisors have decided to incorporate all three game modes into Nations Cup IX. "You see, a community is hard to please, and in Urban Terror's case, you have the CTF fans, the bomb lovers and the TS adherents. We believe the best way to conciliate everyone is actually to mix the fun! says kan, one of two Nations Cup supervisors who will oversee the cup, working with admins, GTV and shoutcasters to make this the best cup so far. There will be five qualifying rounds, Team Survivor on Casa & Abbey, Capture the Flag on Pgrounds, Bomb & Defuse on Sanctuary & Nimrod, Team Survivor on Uptown & Turnpike and Capture the Flag on Algiers to close out the first five weeks. The playoffs will be setup similar, with Team Survivor, Capture the Flag and Bomb & Defuse being played each playoff round. All nations are welcome to participate in this cup. If you want to be a Captain for your nation, get your application complete and e-mail it to Clanbase Supervisors. Enrollment for Nations Cup IX will close on December 28, so get going, get your team formed. For more information check out the Clanbase Nations Cup IX web site. Best of luck to all nations participating!
