ETGiRC - upcoming Public Beta
As many of you know, IRC is over 25 years old! Yet still a very popular means of communication for clans and gaming communities. We at Urban Terror are no exception.
You can always find us on the EnterTheGame IRC network and also on Quakenet.
ETG is getting ready for the launch of their upcoming Public Beta of ETGiRC somewhere this month! Unfortunately, there will be a limited number of keys available. so you have to keep an eye on it in order not to miss it.

With the introduction of ETGiRC, the future of IRC is going to be bright and full of possibilities once more! "A complete evolutionary leap" is the most accurate description as to what ETGiRC is. It's not just another chat client, some small upgrade/change, or some feature added to IRC. It is a complete shift in IRC, in what we see, in how we use it, in what it offers us, and in how we interact and experience it.
ETGiRC is network independent, with multi-network support for up to 5 connections at a time, custom network configurations, advanced window management system, GAMES, Advanced Game Query System will obtain regional server lists and buddy list, and you can design your chat room/channel's appearance.
But the most important feature of ETGiRC is the introduction of customized chat rooms.

Merry Christmas
We at FrozenSand hope all you UrbanTerrorites had a safe and happy Christmas and enjoy the rest of the holidays.



Some updates
There's a few things I think are worth a newspost.
First of all, there has been some work on the frontpage. Certain info was added, pages were updated and/or cleaned up. If you think anything's missing, post about it on the forums, this thread for example.
One thing which I know is missing is good screenshots. The ones currently in the gallery are kind of boring. Please refer to this forum thread so that we can make it better.
Talking of screenshots... BladeKiller provided us with some pics of the new skins for 4.1. Here you go:




Another thing is the work gurkesaft is doing. He coded the serverside of a q3 authserver, which means we could run our own auth server with a key system for ioUrbanTerror. This means we could have a system where people would have to sign up for keys before they can play (on servers that demand it). The keys could be used to identify/ban people. It's pretty interesting stuff. Still in testing phase though. Details need to be worked out too. Read about it here.
Finally, there's been a few new third party maps released. Check out this post for the full list of 3rd party maps.
PS: Sorry, we don't have a date for 4.1. It's too hard to tell when it will be done... Could be next week, could be 2 more months...

Merry Christmas
From those of us on the development team, we want to extend best wishes out to all those in the Urban Terror Community. Have a Merry Christmas today and hopefully the little, fat man brought you everything you asked for. It seems he missed the community and did not leave us a new release quite yet. But fret not, after a few days off for some holiday cheer and spiked egg nog, we will be back at work.
A very short update today as we look at another year coming to a close. We have a big test match set up for next weekend to check all sorts of different aspects of the new release. We don't want some big nasty to sneak up on us at the last minute prior to release. So, we have secured a community server and will populate it with minimum of 10 gamers, hopefully more, just to check and see how it all runs. And yes, we have done that at times with QA, but most of their work is testing items that have just been compiled and created inat a pk3 to be tested.
Anyway, enjoy your holiday season and especially Christmas ('cept for those in Australia), we will bring you more good news shortly. Ho. Ho. Ho.
