Bravo, I just read your post. Your reasoning is not applicable. You mentioned Robert De Niro and rockstars being criticized by other people and yet they kept going with their jobs. And I wanna say it again: JOBS. We at Frozen Sand develop Urban Terror has an hobby. No one gets paid for this and I believe that the community should appreciate all the efforts we are putting in something we believe in, instead of randomly insult dev team members. When people produce something (in this case a videogame) they do that for 2 possible reasons:

  • Being paid for what is being done (job -> salary)
  • Because of the sake of doing it (and in this case motivation will increase on positive/constructive feedbacks received by the community)

Here at FS no one gets paid. Everyone has job/university to think about, and we code/skin/model in our free time just because we like to. Moreover the community usually doesn't give us constructive feedback (some people yes but the majority just insult and complain). Do the maths now :)

Sorry Fenix but i do not agree, if you do something as a hobby and just for the sake of doing it then why would you care of what a troll say or do not say?, If you care about an idiot flaming you then you can't do anything, not just a video game.
Of course it's just my way to see things, I recognize there is people much more susceptible than me, but i think that's not a way to enjoy things.

It’s unlikely anyone in FS would be doing their part just for the sake of it (like, say, (badly) playing guitar for your own amusement, without anyone else even knowing that you do). It’s a game; no matter what some of the developers may claim, their work would be absolutely meaningless without the players, and the motivation of seeing it appreciated is a large part of the reason people put untold amount of hours into this.

And this is why a single “omg u fagerts lrn2 maek gaems” can have such impact. Gods know that I have my own issues with FS, but I would never go out of my way to call someones else’s freely available work worthless in their face. Anybody who’s had some taste of what it feels like to put your newborn baby out there and have it deemed crap knows that it hurts on a very personal level. You can’t just shrug it off, especially if you don’t actually consider all those people “trolls”, as BRAVO so eloquently put it. It sure doesn’t help that the majority of people gathering to a game like this would be teenagers, the “I’m perfect and you all suck” crowd for whom understanding the amount of dedication required to pull this off would be something of an epiphany… (Continuing my ode to Seven of Nine, his prodding of the developers to talk and answer questions is invaluable in allowing them to be seen as actual human beings who might have *gasp* reasons for their actions and decisions, rather than just extremely buggy plugins for Radiant, Max and Photoshop. There can never be too much human interaction between them and us.)

On topic: Tidus’s complaints how the game is looking even more like ass than it used to are largely true, whether you consider all his examples valid or not. (Maps getting darker and more gaily colored is, I assume, a manifestation of the very same artistic vision that’s lacking by his account:-P) 4.2, having been thrown out of the It’s Just Beta ghetto twice at this point, surpassed 4.1 in most regards around .008 by my own count and has been getting better all the time, but it started out looking sloppy and has remained so. Just the most obvious example: the game has made do for 11 months and 13 point releases with, yes, those animations that everyone agrees are broken. (Weapons clipping into player models even in the first person view is just part of this problem.)

It bears repeating that HD does not exist. It may, one day, but right now 4.2 is the game you insist is best for your players, and the game you’re allowing to represent yourselves.

The day I consider myself a prophet is the day you consider yourself a "concept artist".

Guys Tidus was just saying that this game is in his opinion not enough user friendly for the new people who want to play it and he thinks you look like you don't pay much attention to the new players.

You did an awesome job on the last versions, (except for the tp lighting, but that's just my opinion) and people tend to forget that.
I mean, you know your people, you're used to it... but I just wanted to say... stay tough... the power is strong with these ones c:

More seriously... You can not, not care about what concerns what you care about... The opinion of people, of EVERYONE is taken into account, at different levels according to the kind of feedback (troll, useless critics, useful critics, etc). BUT, some of you have to understand that they (FS) can not answer everyone the same way, the same amount of words, and take everyone's suggestions to the game... The time it takes you to figure out why that, please keep calm, and your fingers off your keyboard... Even me, who isn't often on the forums, I can feel how annoying it must be...

Urban Terror is using idtech3 engine. This engine is from 1999, was used with Quake3 Arena.

1999

Lets not knock the amazing muliplayer experience idtech3 gives you. Still the best to play imo. I don't care much for eye candy.
the only thing that's not so good imo in the 4.2.x versions of urbanterror is the very hit and miss updater.

Thank You FS and all the mappers that spend hours on this FREE game.

Well the only thing I judged "bad" was the bullet icon on lower right corner of the screen, instead of a regular magazine icon! As I already typed during the relase party, though ;)

Plus, the mac 11 reloading animations is missin of a "locking system", for example like this (it refers to a mac 10)

Please Frozen Sand, for the next update any chanche to see such animation for the mac 11?

Also, would be interestin for that weapon havin a secondary mode of fire, involving the usage of the folding stock, givin to shooting less kickback, more way precision in firing, but since engine is from AD think that would be too much of hassle?

Thanks for the wonderful game/work!! <3
