What are the pros and cons on using ASE converted terrain vs using regular terrain?

One pro is that terrain looks prety cool, if you know how to work it. I used EasyGen once and with the right manual it's easy to use and make an environment. With this environment you get a nice place to kick off making some buildings etc.
