Run the Intel Burn Test. It supposedly doesn't work with AMD CPUs, but it did for me on an old Barton.

This will REALLY heat up your CPU, but it will also guarantee stability if you pass it, because I doubt anything tougher exists. If all the values returned match, you're stable. If your temps stayed below the maximum recommended, you're safe. IBT will get your CPU hotter than any other test out there. Prime95 is a crap test imo. I've had overclocks pass 8, 10, 12 hours of Prime, but crash minutes into playing fking UrT. IBT always knows.
You can't OC without voltage control, basically. If your voltage automatically increases with frequency, you'll hit unsafe volts in no time. If it doesn't increase, you'll be unstable soon.
You need to consider that your CPU may just not OC well. Your motherboard is crap, granted, but OC is NEVER guaranteed. Those 2 cheap boards aren't going to be much better. If you're willing to spend $70 on a new board and $80 on a new CPU, why not buy the DFI board?
