Ok, well I am using Gtkradiant 1.5, and i would like to create water, but i am unsure of what shader to use.

I have water textures, which is easy, but when it came to shaders, i was lost. This was because I have two water shaders. one is called "water" and the other is called "water caulk".

Which one do I use?

Also, is there a shader to remove the black bits on fence textures?

Use normal water shader on top surface of water brush, and apply water_caulk to other (botttom and sides of brush) faces of brush. To add alpha channel to texture (or remove black bits as you said that :laugh:) use this shader:
textures/ut_turnpike/will_fence_chainlink
{
	surfaceparm trans
	cull none
        nopicmip

	{
		map textures/ut_turnpike/will_fence_chainlink.tga
		blendFunc GL_ONE GL_ZERO
		alphaFunc GE128
		depthWrite
		rgbGen identity
	}
	{
		map $lightmap
		rgbGen identity
		blendFunc GL_DST_COLOR GL_ZERO
		depthFunc equal
	}
}

Its shader from turnpike, if you want to use it, change texture paths.

not sure if you got help with this elsewhere or figured it out all on your own, but you would just add that code to notepad and save it as ie: fence.shader

or if you already have your mapname.shader then just place the code in there.. and like ValkoVer said, just change the texture paths :]

edit: if you do save it as an extra shader file, then make sure to add that name of the shader to the shaderlist.txt file..

you would just add 'fence' in there if that was the name..

Yes it's all sorted haha. The only problem I am facing with mapping now is creating shaders. My text documents dont save as .shader. Perhaps because I'm on a mac, although I don't believe that is the reason.

Copy an existing .shader, rename it, remove everything inside and add own stuff.

@banksy Plain text docs always save as .txt .. mac or pc .. if you dont see any extension at all, go in Finder/Preferences, Advanced tab, "Show all file extensions"
Then in Text Edit, make sure you select the "Make plain text" option in the "Format" menu. Then save... it will save with .txt extension ... just rename to .shader
