No IP problem anymore. Read the UAA newsletter of May http://forums.urbant...ic,15849.0.html
It's like the MSN Passport,
you got one MSN login/pass and you can use on differents websites/services.
you got one 'UrT Passport guid' you can use on differents serveurs
You can use the MSN services from different computers/IP
So you can with the 'Urt Passport'
and no more IP range trolls as you won't be banned by IP anymore, but your Urt Passport will be deactivated.
A cheater could register a new Passport, but various checks can be done upon registration. And for a well known player involved in competitions, that will be very suspicious to see him changing his Passport.

Thanks Courgette,
You are correct. We generate your passport a 32chr long Hex GUID Key, this is entered either entered into the iourt console by method of a command, such as /pp-key <key> or by copying the key file its self from your email to your urban terror directory. When you start the game this key is sent to the auth server and your passport checked.
Many games can play from a single IP since validation is no IP dependant.
We have a dedicated AuthServer that runs, processing each and every nick change and client connection accross the protected network. So we are able to use this as a greater form of control for authentication.
I don't really want to ask many questions, but this one seems like a fair concern that should be no more now .

and admin will fix it through or nick stealing procedure. It's a good idea to...
a) Have a forum account with matching nickname (as a form of proof) which was registered as long as possible.
b) Do it in the first 4 weeks or so (some exceptions will exsist), then it will become strictly first come first served.
In the first 4 weeks stealing someone elses nick will be STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, if we believe that you have known that someone uses the nickname and are in fact stealing it, you risk having your own nickname put on our rejected names list, you could dependind on repeat offensed be removed completely for a little while.
Don't worries nicknames will be fine. Same goes for groups BTW!

I think my biggest question will be: will this all be done through urt's website or an alternative website. The best way IMO is to require account creation before downloading the game. And of course all current accounts on urt.net would transfer over.
You probably already did this by now.

The forum and passport site are very different pieces of software. We will take that under advisement. But one thing is certain, the passport website will run from a urt.net domain, so the ONLY site to trust is urbanterror.net. But nice input and it is something being looked at as a possible idea, but no decisions have been made to how/if we do it
