I know some of these components are a bit cheap but I am trying to stay under $2000 while still building a decent system. Any comments?
ASUS "P4C800-E DELUXE" i875P Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU
Intel Pentium 4 2.26 GHz 533MHz FSB, 512K Cache
1 GB (4*256MB)pqi POWER Series 184-Pin DDR PC-2100
HIS Excalibur RADEON X800 PRO IceQ II Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ICE80PN-2I-ZAM"
NEC/MITSUBISHI DP930SB-BK 19" SuperBright Diamondtron CRT Monitor
ENERMAX 660W Power supply for AMD K7 & Pentium4, Model "EG851AX-VH(W) FM"
I went with the chosen processor so I could use the cheaper pc2100 memory. What I was trying to do is get the best video card, motherboard, and a decent 19" monitor as well as a high powered power supply I could while skimping a bit on the other components that can be upgraded later.
Video Card review:

If someone has suggestions for a better vid card or other component, please post a link to information/reviews on the item.
P.S. Minor components such as keyboard, hd etc were not included.

for the price fo your vid card (400$), youd be better off going with a 6800gt. at the $400 price point that is your best bet.
you are going to be severely cpu limited in new games. at least spring for some pc3200 ram (2*512) and a 3.0c. itll be worth it (and it overclocks nicely). mobo is fine.
the psu is a bit overkill. you will be fine with an antec truepower 430.

The reason I am going for overkill with the PSU is eventually I intend to have a DVD burner, CD burner, a couple of RAID arrays. Also the case I have in mind is the Thermaltake Xaser III full tower with 7 cooling fans. Just want to make sure that power remains stable with no fluctuations as is common when reaching near max for the PSU. Also, the more strain you put on the PSU the higher the temp it reaches. Perhaps a 500W power supply? I do like Antec though.

I don't intend to buy many if any newer games for a while. I assume this setup should be just fine for Urban Terror, Neverwinter Nights, and Dungeon Seige. Maybe about 9-12 months later I intend to upgrade to the P4 3.4Ghz and between 2 and 4 gigs PC3200 ram. I'll just sell the old stuff on Ebay

This is the case I am speaking of. I like the fact that it has a steel chssis, is lockable, and has 7 fans as well as a 4 fan control unit. Something like this should last for years and years. Everything I have read so far speaks of the extreme high quality of the case. A bit heavy though at about 50 lbs empty but its not like I plan to take it to LAN parties or anything.

Alright, after looking over the suggestions and upping my amount willing to spend (also used the sharky extreme site - thanks audioaxes though I used the high end instead of value) I came up with these specs.
ASUS P4C800-E DELUXE
Pentium 4 3.0C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache
CORSAIR XMS Series 1GB(512MBx2)DDR PC-3200
THERMALTAKE XASER III V1000A FULL TOWER
Seagate 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card, 256MB
NEC/MITSUBISHI FE991SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor
Creative Inspire 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum
NEC 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive
Samsung 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive
Microsoft BLACK Multimedia Keyboard PS/2 102keys
Logitech MX510 Optical Mouse
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1a
Plantronics DSP-500 Headphones
Vantec "Tornado" Double Ball Bearing Cooling Fan
Thermaltake Copper RAM Sink Cooler
Thermalright CPU Cooler (no fan hence the tornado)
Antec 550 Watt Power Supply Control Panel
BELKIN Universal Series 1000VA UPS-Serial & USB
Total Cost $2668
This includes shipping but since I intend to order most of it at once I might be lucky enough to get a shipping discount from newegg.com. The only item I wont be buying from newegg is the case since the one newegg has comes with a PSU and I'd rather choose my own PSU. So what if this monster sounds like a vacuum cleaner with 7 case fans, one psu fan and dual fans on the video card, thats what headphones are for. Later I'll be placing fans on the northbridge and southbridge chips as well and putting the thermaltake active ram cooling kit in (13 fans whoot!) Perhaps eventually I'll get the Sennheiser headset with mic since I've heard real good things about them but for now the plantronics headset is good.
Any further suggestions?

my roommate has one of those cases and they're HUGE and heavy....hope you dont mind that
I know that but its got 7 fans and its soooo sexay! Probably end up adding a second 4 fan controller from Thermaltake and repainting the red accents to a metallic blue since I plan to replace the visible fans with blue led light fans and have a couple blue flexi lights inside.
*Drools*

for the cpu you may want to look into a a64 3200 with 1MB cache.
I'm gonna stick with Intel for now. If I get this system and later up to the 3.4 Ghz p4 extreme and upgrade the memory I probably wont have to worry about upgrading again for another 3-4 years.
