megui ftw, encode it to mp4 with decent settings :)

Avidemux is amazing. (after I tried a few, and especially that hack, 'Super').

Though I hadn't tried what you just said. It looks quality with its auto-updating of everything.

[I had to use 'svn builds' for proper mp4/h.264/aac support. hehe]

Like the name "meGUI" suggested, the apps is merely a front-end for the command line tools.

Where as Avidemux is actually a (simplistic) NLE. But when it comes to NLE, i find Avidemux lacking.

No, I mean, I had tried some mere frontends, e.g. that horrible 'Super' but there were lacking. Avidemux, merely for encoding was good.

but i had to use svn build.

I find meGUI the best front-end for video encoding purposes (for Windows anyway). The only thing i find lacking is the support for GPU accelerated encoding (NVIDIA CUDA, ATI Stream). But this is not actually the fault of meGUI, but that of the command lines tools which actually does the encoding.

I'm also using MediaShow Espresso (for non gaming videos) for encoding, which does have GPU accelerated encoding feature. Encoding is only a matter of minutes instead of hours which is very nice. The only drawback is that it doesn't allow you to customize the encoder settings.

Did u try Avidemux? It has automated 2-Pass and stuff like that. E.g. "2-Pass but make it exactly XXX Megs". It's pretty cool.

edit: I get accelerated decoding whatever I try. Unless whatever I try does it.

I have, back when i actually tried doing video editing on Linux (which i have given up on due to lack of professional grade NLE's - and yes Vegas is professional grade to an extend). And i don't use 2-pass for video encoded for distributions, i use 3-pass for higher precision.

Watchout, youtube has implemented auto audio/music detection. You will bet nabbed if you don't CREDIT THE MUSIC. If you do, then the Copyrighted material is "okay".

Good luck with everything else.

BTW, [now that I won't double post, hehe], I've found MeGUI to be awesome! I've actually went and remade Scene1with 3-Pass on Medium settings and Animation preference on about 6000kbit.
