Whoa...I'm an Old School UTer (read: I remember when it went from 1.0 to 2...oh, the days of SPAS sniping and ut_hotel) and I left for a long time for a variety of reasons.

I decided to check on the community and was happily surprised to see things have continued so well. I was always impressed by Oswald + crew.

Anyway, in my effort to try out 3.7 (I had to upgrade from 3.1!), I've discovered that my quake3 is "broken." I'll post my output below and I can't figure it out. ET: works fine for me.

I am running RH FC2, I have an ATI M9/Mobility 9000, and am running the ATI drivers/xorg. No other programs barf on me like this. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help...here's the output:

huh...i would reinstall quake 3 since its been so long. Plus you're using ATi drivers, so i dunno..Also, i am not sure why you're playing at 640 x 480:

PIXELFORMAT: color(24-bits) Z(24-bit) stencil(0-bits)
MODE: 3, 640 x 480 fullscreen hz:N/A

First, you're right...I hadn't noticed that section. Further, it yaks to me about XFree86 stuff, which I'm not using any more (xorg). Interesting.

However, I don't think reinstalling quake3 is the problem...I think I have to stop using the ATI drivers :-(

Thanks.

1. xorg aint a problem
2. q3 says it wants the DGA extension loaded, so load it
3. does it happen as soon as you push a key?

uhm, I can reproduce this bug on my Linux boxes, both a game rig and a lappie.

ut_weaptoggle without a parameter and with "secondary" gives me an instant signal 11 and exit. It doesn't crash with "secondary primary", "primary secondary" and "knife"

Can anyone else reproduce this the same way(s)?

signal 11 is a common error (segmentation fault) that can happen for various of reasons. or more generically, when a program tries to access an unsigned part of memory, or so I've heard. it's a bug and it shouldn't happen but as hobbes said you can start with the "Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DGA" missing on display ":0.0"." warning and give dga support to the game.

Which you really want if you plan on using your mouse (in_dgamouse 1 owns windows and mac input systems)
