Ubuntu is nice for the support and the usability. But I have been having extreme frustrations with sound issues (looked all over for ts2/ mic guides). I have updated to 9.04 beta and I'm unimpressed with the sound deal.
is something like arch or slack or another distro easier to use?
EDIT: I am not afraid of command line. But I would highly prefer something more simple/lightweight that works. I would rather run a cut down distro with in which wine+ts2 works than using bloated ubuntu without working sound.

If you're not afraid of the command line you know you can just compile stuff yourself (if needed, to include a patch to fix the problems you have). Running to another distro will not really help you on the long run in identify and resolve the problems you have.

You do know it's not the distro you use that has all the fault for sound problems right? It's the hardware you have that lacks proper drivers and stuff like that. I've passed trough what you're passing right now and it didn't solve any sound problems till I bought a SB Live.

I'm sorry... "Freetards"? Shut the fuck up. All he's asking for is help with his audio. He's obviously new to linux, because otherwise he would have solved his issue by himself. He's just asking for suggestions for a more reliable, stable distribution, not blaming cannonical.
Now, to the OP's question. I've only dabbled around in linux. I know many command-line commands, but unfortunately don't know much about audio drivers. Your issue most likely would be able to be fixed by following any online tutorial on how to get sound working. Try posting in the ubuntu forums. Tell them what sound card you have.
Good luck, and don't mind the windows-user's stupid comments.
