Lower Saturation In Characters
It's A Little Silly

I'm glad Urban Terror understands the importance of significantly different looking teams (*cough* Counter-Strike *cough*), but the characters are a little on the unrealistically colourful side.
I made a little picture just to show what I mean, it's not very good. But it gets the idea across. It's a little touch that adds a bit of realism to the game, yeah yeah I know, Fun over realism. But if the guys just got a little less colourful that wont effect the game play much will it?

The game is influenced a lot by voices from competition. Even for pubbing people are vocal for it. It's partly natural since there's no single player mode. Of course, I don't know if it's lopsided since competitive players are often the most networked reaching the team's ear. A poll might show reality but I suspect it'd still give a priority to bright colors since again, no single player mode, it's basically competition from pub to clan.

This is very true, I myself play on the lowest settings for that competitive edge. I admit somewhat disagreeing with myself now, since it's on my mind, I've noticed just how many times florescent colours have saved my colourful butt. :D
But if you look at my picture, it doesn't really change much. You can still tell that red a red member is red.

^ Some maps are very lopsided. Even popular official ones. Is it casa that is full of 'pink' walls? Pink makes red harder to see.
It's not a problem at all in clan wars since if I'm not mistaken they always play twice, one on each side. That is a good reason to do it.
In pubs, it's a problem. Almost no one plays it twice in pubs and pubs still have egos since it's a multiplayer-only game. Though to be honest, I wouldn't find it too bad instead of 1 20-minute game that changes map to have 2 10-minute ones that change sides. Almost no admin does it.

Personally, I'd like green to be an option... but then I've also voted for 3 team games...
Isn't the "red" team supposed to be like wearing prison uniforms? In which case, that color isn't actually bright enough.
